The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU APL) is seeking a passionate and motivated second shift machinist to join and grow with our team! You will be instrumental in helping us manufacture the next generation spacecraft, undersea hardware, shipboard test systems and communication components. You will join a highly-professional, multi-disciplinary fabrication team of skilled craftsman that support programs varying from R&D prototype to flight hardware that meets AS9100 standards.

 
The work schedule for this position is from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, Monday through Friday (Second Shift). Second shift staff receives a 10% shift differential.
 

As a CNC Machinist you will be responsible for...

 
  • Setting-up, programming, and operation of CNC and conventional machines for end-to-end manufacturing with minimal supervision.
    •  
  • Performing in-process inspection using precision measuring instruments (i.e., I.D and O.D. Micrometers, calipers, height gauges, etc.) to verify that customer hardware specifications and tolerances are met.

 

  • Communicating and engaging with engineers and designers to collaborate about complex designs and provide fabrication insight to ensure project success.

 

  • Achieving and maintaining proficiency with all applicable quality processes associated with assigned work.

 

  • Monitoring and recording duration of work performed in the ERP system in accordance with business and Quality procedures.

 

 


Qualifications

 

You will meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you possess...

 

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with email, file directories, and other web-based applications
  • 1+ years of experience with manual machining and/or the operation of CNC machining equipment.
  • An ability to obtain a secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You will exceed our qualifications for the job if you possess...

  • Exposure to setting up CNC machining equipment
  • Exposure to CAD/CAM programming software
  • Vocational training for machining or equivalent
  • Proficiency in software such as; Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • An existing security clearance at the secret or top-secret level.
