Part-time Specialist, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) - Hiring for Fall & Spring

Description

The Part-time Specialist, ESOL follows established curriculum guidelines and lesson plans for students according to their English Proficiency levels. Instructors are encouraged to supplement instruction with appropriate materials according to the students’ current needs. The Part-time Specialist, ESOL will also keep timely student attendance records.       

The Part-time Specialist, ESOL is expected to work a flexible schedule and may be assigned teaching duties at SF’s main Northwest campus or at any of the College’s six educational centers. This position is being hired for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Deliver instruction to students based on curriculum guidelines and provide curriculum lesson plans.

  • Support and promote the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and service.

  • Provide students with frequent, timely assessment of and clear feedback regarding academic performance.

  • Appropriately document student progress and maintain accurate records such as attendance, grading and achievement of student learning outcomes.

  • Honor student confidentiality and privacy as per appropriate laws, regulations and college rules.

  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Instructional Specialist, English Literacy & Civics

Qualifications

Required: A Bachelor's degree in any field, plus a (one-year) certificate in TESL/TESOL, or a combination of certifications and/or equivalent teaching experience. 

Other:  A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred: A Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, ESOL, Linguistics, or Languages. Two (2) years of experience in TESL/TESOL methods, ESL/EFL/ESOL, or classroom experience of any language instruction.

  • Communication – able to effectively communicate in a professional, diplomatic, empathetic, and tactful manner using preferred method and level as applicable to the job.

  • Ethics – able to demonstrate integrity, professionalism, civility, and a high degree of ethics in all job-related actions.

  • Organization & Time Management – able to plan, schedule, and organize tasks related to the job to achieve goals within or ahead of established time frames.

  • Systems & Software - proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.

  • Team Orientation & Interpersonal – highly motivated team player with ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all levels within and external to the organization.
