POSITION TITLE: Senior Manager, Reporting and Analysis

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Reporting and Analysis, Sr. Manager will spearhead and lead this strategic, centralized group at Scripps Research. Reporting to the Senior Director of Strategic Finance, this role will drive the development and implementation of robust reporting and forecasting systems, processes, and models to deliver key insights and ensure sound strategic investment decisions for the Institute. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of technical proficiency, business acumen, and leadership skills to build this first-ever strategic team at Scripps Research.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Build and Lead Team

  • Develop a comprehensive strategy for establishing and optimizing a centralized reporting and analysis function aligned with organizational goals and objectives, working closely cross functionally with Finance and IT.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to identify key requirements and performance metrics to ensure both short-term and long-term successful organizational outcomes.
  • Recruit, lead, and mentor team to execute reporting and forecasting initiatives effectively.

Infrastructure Optimization

  • Working closely with the CIO organization, design comprehensive strategy to establish best practices and standards to ensure robust data integrity to improve data reliability, accessibility, and efficiency.
  • Evaluate and implement effective platforms and tools to meet business requirements.

Analysis

  • Analyze data to identify opportunities for process or organizational improvement and strategic investment decisions.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to understand operational needs and translate into actionable insights to ensure successful outcomes (both short- and long-term objectives).
  • Details of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration, finance, or related field; advanced degree a strong plus
  • 6+ years of related work experience, with a track record of successfully building and leading reporting and analytics initiatives.
  • Expertise in programming languages (eg. Python, SQL) and with data analysis as well as visualization / presentation tools (eg., R, Tableau, PowerBI, etc.). Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques is a plus.
  • Ability to understand complex business drivers, develop insights utilizing a data-driven approach, and communicate succinctly to a range of different audiences, including principal investigators, administration colleagues, and lab coordinators.
  • Adept in ambiguous situations; flexible and comfortable making decisions using available data points that can be limited and/or imperfect.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities while effectively managing multiple commitments.
  • Strategic mindset coupled with the desire to constantly improve the status quo.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with proven experience in cultivating cross-collaborative working relationships across an organization.
  • This is an on-campus position requiring 4 days per week working onsite from our La Jolla campus, with flexibility to work 1 day per week remotely from home.

COMPENSATON:

The expected hiring range for this position is $156,400 to $204,450/annually, commensurate with experience.
