VP of Product

Job Description

Scope of Job
PowerFlex's mission is to provide organizations withintelligentonsitesolutions that support carbon-free electrification and transportation. We accomplish this through economic and energy co-optimization of solar, storage, and electric vehicles. Our products were developed at Caltech, deployed with research partners like NASA JPL and NREL and are now scaling to customers like Netflix, Adobe, LAX, Walmart, and municipalities everywhere.

As the VP of Product, you'll be at the helm of our product management team, guiding the development of groundbreaking solutions that redefine the future of energy management. Your visionary leadership, strategic thinking, and product expertise will be the driving force behind our product roadmap, ensuring that we continue to lead the industry and exceed our customers' expectations. The ideal candidate has external customer facing technology experience, has led a high functioning product team, and understands the interplay between hardware and software components. While a true VP level position, the right candidate will be in the trenches day-to-day with the product team and foster a strong culture of collaboration and cross-team delivery.

Location
This role is open to be 100% remote or a hybrid role out of one of our offices (Mountain View, CA,San Diego, CA orNew York, NY.) Strong preference will be made for candidates who are local to our Mountain View Office and can be on-site three days a week. For a remote candidate, frequent travel would be necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing product management team.
    • Build and implement a plan to become a mature and high performing product organization.
    • Foster a collaborative and innovative culture that encourages creativity and excellence.
  • Product Strategy and Vision:
    • Develop and articulate a clear product vision and strategy that aligns with the company's overall goals and market opportunities.
    • Translate the vision and strategy into a clear and actionable product roadmap.
    • Lead the end-to-end product lifecycle, from ideation to launch, ensuring a seamless integration of hardware and software components while keeping a close eye on end-to-end testing and delivery.
  • Market Analysis and Customer Insights:
    • In cooperation with the Strategy, Business Development, and Marketing teams, drive market research and competitive analysis to identify opportunities and threats.
    • Gather and analyze customer feedback to inform product decisions and improvements.
    • Understand the hardware and software supplier landscape to inform product decisions.
  • Product Development and Execution:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, marketing, and sales, to deliver high-quality products on time and within budget.
    • Drive the development of new products and enhancements, ensuring they are technically feasible, commercially viable and worthy of prioritization for PowerFlex; present and validate those product development to management on a quarterly basis.
    • Oversee the creation of product roadmaps, ensuring alignment with business objectives and customer needs.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Build strong relationships and work in lockstep with the CTO to ensure to ensure PF delivers the best possible product.
    • Communicate product vision, strategy, and progress to internal and external stakeholders, including executives, partners, and customers.
    • Build strong relationships with key partners and vendors to enhance product capabilities and market reach.
    • Provide regular updates and reports to the executive team on product performance, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Performance Metrics and Analysis:
    • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure product success and drive continuous improvement.
    • Utilize data-driven insights to make informed decisions and optimize product performance.

Qualifications
Education/Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in product management, with a proven track record of leading successful hardware and software product launches.
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior leadership role, preferably as a VP of Product or similar position.
  • Strong background in HW - SW product management.
  • Renewable energy experience is a plus.

Compensation
The pay range for this position is $224,550 - $274,450 annually. This position is eligible for PowerFlex's comprehensive Health and Welfare plans including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement plan and paid time off. The total compensation for this position may include an annual performance bonus (or other incentive compensation, as applicable). PowerFlex's compensation packages carefully consider a candidate's qualifications, experiences, and education in relation to the position.

Supervision of Others
This role will supervise approximately 10-15 people.

Fiscal Responsibilities
Team budget, travel and expenses will be managed by this role.

Physical Requirements
Remaining in a seated position. Long hours on a computer keyboard. Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking. Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 25 pounds regularly/occasionally.

Working Conditions
90-100% of time is spent in an office environment, utilizing computers, phones, and general office equipment. Frequent business travel.
