Assistant Professor of Film and Performing Arts (Indigenous Media) , Tenure-Track
The University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of Theatre and Film seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Film and Performing Arts with a focus on Indigenous Media at the Troth Yeddha’ campus located on the unceded territories of the Lower Tanana Dena Peoples. Our program offers experiential hands-on courses, as well as distance and hybrid/hyflex courses. The successful applicant should have strong experience teaching, as well as a portfolio of previous creative work in theatre and/or film performance; directing; producing; writing, design; cultural practices, or a combination thereof. Faculty members at UAF serve under tripartite contracts consisting of Teaching, Research, and Service. Our program values diversity of knowledge and collaborative methodologies, while striving to provide opportunities for under-represented voices in the Theatrical and Cinematic Arts.
Applicants should have strong creative portfolios demonstrating produced efforts in Theatre/Film as well as cultural integration in Indigenous Media issues regarding content development, representation, narrative sovereignty, and/or community engagement
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have an MA, MFA (preferred), PhD, or minimum 5 years of professional experience in film/video or theatre production. Verification of the requirements is to be drawn from the candidate’s letter of interest, vitae and/or portfolio.
MFA or PhD in Theatre/Performance required at the time of appointment.
Demonstrated work in Indigenous communities in connection with narrative, documentary, and/ or theatrical productions.
Position Details:
This position is located on the UA campus in Fairbanks. This is a 9 month tenure-track, faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
