Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

This Post Doctoral Associate Position will participate in a joint project between the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), within the Genetic Improvement for Fruits and Vegetables Lab located in Beltsville, MD and the Department of Environmental Science and Technology at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with research teams at both institutions applying molecular biology and genomic tools to elucidate mechanisms of pathogenicity and developing disease-resistant plant germplasm.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
A PhD degree in the field of Life Sciences.

Experience:
  • Demonstrated experience in molecular biology.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to design experiments and work independently as well as part of a team, with good
communication skills to keep team members informed and disseminate results at meeting and in
refereed journals.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Demonstrated experience in plant genetic engineering and transformation, microbiology, bioinformatics, and plant pathology techniques (e.g., isolation and culture of bacterial plant
    pathogens; plant infections in growth chambers and greenhouses).
  • A track record of publishing research results in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrated experience in design of experiments and development of laboratory protocols.

Additional Information:

Salary range: $62,000.00 to $68,000.00.
