Introduction to the job

The Test and Measurement internship is a hands-on opportunity to work in a lab environment supporting experimentation and analysis by using a variety of materials characterization techniques. You will work closely with our test and measurement facilities team to own a specific test or project in support of our EUV technology.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Brainstorm and investigate hypotheses to solve product issues.

  • Perform materials characterization.

  • Perform sample prep for microscopy inspection.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams of scientists and engineers to investigate scientific and technical problems and challenges; evaluate and recommend solutions.

  • Validate concepts through experiments.

  • Obtain and analyze data using advanced materials characterization techniques, such as SEM, EDS, EBSD, WDS, TEM, AFM, XRF, or surface profilometry.

  • SEM sample prep such as: cutting, grinding, polishing, sputtering, etc.

  • Documents work results.

  • Analyze work performed by external labs.

Other duties as assigned:

  • Work in a team environment alongside local experienced engineers.

  • Analyze manufacturing, performance, and reliability data from labs and field.

  • The goal of the internship is for you to learn about working in a corporate setting and to provide your knowledge in solving real world problems in a team environment.

  • Intern will be required to document and present their findings as well as make an end of summer presentation to the group about what they achieved during their internship.

Education and Experience

  • Studying towards an advanced degree in a science or engineering department, such as Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, or Chemical Engineering.

  • Requires a solid conceptual understanding and hands-on experience with a wide variety of modern materials characterization techniques (such as Optical Microscopy, SEM, EBSD, EDS, WDS, TEM, surface profilometer, etc.).

  • Knowledge and experience in thin film deposition and growth is preferred.

  • Extensive hands-on experience on metallographic sample prep using a cutter, grinder, and polisher is a must.

  • Experience with process improvement and optimization is preferred.

  • Experience with writing procedures is preferred.

  • The environment generally is moderate in temperature and noise level.

  • Extended periods of time in a clean room environment should be expected. Requires gowning in Class 10K gowning protocol.

  • May need to work in labs with equipment that emit high-pitched noise.

  • May spend extended periods of time at a computer workstation.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. * 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
