Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The position provides in-person, executive level support to the Director of The School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (SLLC) and the Office of Academic Affairs. This position maintains the Director’s calendar, commitments, and correspondence; manages the SLLC Office of Academic Affairs; Supervises the office Graduate Administrative Assistants, serves as primary point of contact for the School, communicates on its behalf with internal and external faculty, alumni, staff, students, and collaborators; coordinates and manages standing meetings and events for SLLC.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:
Four years experience in administrative staff work.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of reference and research methods and techniques used in collecting, compiling, and organizing data and information, working knowledge of analytical and statistical principles and techniques.
  • Skill in the use of office automation software and its applications, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, to handle sensitive materials with discretion and tact, to present ideas and information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; to perform mathematical computations; to present statistical material in chart and graph form.
  • Ability to independently handle multiple tasks and set priorities.

Other:
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

  • Strong computer skills and established skill set in using Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace, Adobe Suite, Zoom, Box
  • Experience with Google calendar, When2Meet, or other online meeting scheduling sites
  • Experience with UMD operating systems such as Concur and Workday strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of university procurement, business and travel policies and procedures
  • Supervisory experience

Work is performed in a normal office environment, which includes operating standard office equipment (e.g., computer, keyboard, printer, fax machine, telephone, etc.). Some lifting of supplies and materials.
