Job Description
THOR Solutions is actively seeking a Technical Writer II to support an upcoming program at the Navy Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC PAC) in San Diego, CA. In this role, the candidate will write and edit technical reports, directives, documents, memoranda, and administrative publications. An ideal candidate will have prior technical writing experience in a U.S. Navy/DoD environment.Typical Responsibilities:
- Write and edit technical reports, directives, documents, memoranda, and administrative publications.
- Research, develop, write, edit, and distribute unclassified and classified publications of a general, administrative, or technical nature, to include: technical reports, documents, manuals, technical memoranda, technical proposals, instruction books, directives, articles, catalogs, administrative publications, newsletters, brochures, presentations, training products, and other publications associated with the Division's mission, and accomplishments.
- Submit documents to the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Document Services for printing and to the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) for archiving and secondary distribution.
- Operate computer-based desktop publishing equipment to enter, modify, store, retrieve, produce and deliver publications-related text and associated document elements using Navy-Marine Corps Internet (NMCI) email notifications.
- Develop and implement a configuration management plan that addresses all new and modified documentation. Maintain configuration management of NIWC PAC and NAVWAR serialized documents. Identify and maintain revision control and status of documents requiring updating, changes, or cancellation.
- Update and maintain plans and operational tools including project implementation plans, project structures, plans of action and milestone charts, work breakdown structures, critical path milestone charts, and the Technical Publications tracking system.
- Maintain and update configuration change records, deviation and waiver request records, contract data requirements list indices, and data lists.
Location: Full time onsite at the Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC PAC) in San Diego, CA.
Typical Physical Activity: Desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion.
Typical Pay Range: This position's starting pay is $34.31/hour. An additional "Health and Welfare" payment is included, up to $4.57/hour, intended to lower the cost of elected benefits.
Security Clearance Eligibility Required:This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must either already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance (highly preferred);OR be eligible for a Secret security clearance prior to start.
Typical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or another relevant discipline from an accredited institution.
- In lieu of the above, a degree in a different discipline, a lesser degree, or a relevant certification may be considered in combination with additional relevant experience.
- At least five (5) years of specialized technical writing experience, to include:
- Writing, editing, publishing and distribution of formal and informal technical publications.
- Researching, analyzing, conducting interviews, and writing content in line with identified editorial themes.
- Adhering to required style guides for publications geared toward engineering and scientific audiences.
- Providing editorial guidance to subject matter experts with complex content translated into publications, oversight and coordination of technical writing staff, and marketing and outreach to educate customers.
- Experience obtained in a U.S. Navy/DoD environment is highly preferred.
- Strong proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and other common productivity software.
- Strong communication skills.
