Responsibilities*

The Brandon Newborn Intensive Care Unit at the University of Michigan is a 59 bed Level IV neonatal center serving our region, state and beyond.   We remain one of the state's leading referral centers for premature newborns and infants with complex medical problems, complex surgical problems or unusual anomalies, need for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide therapy, and whole body or selective head cooling for hypothermic neuroprotection.
About 80% of the Newborn ICU admissions are inborn and 20% are transported from our referral region and state.  We offer 24/7 neonatal transport services with Newborn ICU RNs as members of the transport team. 
Our specialized nursing team members provide quality nursing care to newborns from the acute phase of illness through recovery.  A family-centered approach to care is practiced in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. 
We provide individualized support and education to families during hospitalization and in preparation for discharge.  We empower families to participate in decision making for and in the care of their child.

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C.
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period. Applicants who have left the UMPNC bargaining unit must include on their resume dates of past employment including months and years of service along with effort. Positions less than 20 hours/week may be combined.

Required Qualifications*

Current RN licensure to practice nursing in Michigan.
Minimum (1) year recent (within 2 years) Neonatal Intensive Care RN experience or (2) years current Adult or Pediatric ICU experience

Desired Qualifications*

BSN
Recent level IV NICU nursing experience, including experience with ECMO and infant transport.
Demonstrated effective communication and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team atmosphere utilizing effective delegation skills.
Ability to remain flexible in response to the changing needs of the intensive care environments.

Work Schedule

Hours Per Week: 32 hours
Shift/Hours/Days: Night shift; 8-hour shifts; Monday through Friday with rotating weekends
Location: 8 West, Brandon Newborn Intensive Care Unit

All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
