HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Philanthropy Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of prospects to secure financial resources to SDZWA's strategic objectives. This position reports to the Director of Philanthropy.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Manages dedicated portfolio of 125 donors and prospects including, but not limited to, outreach, development, continued relationship building and conflict resolution.
- Identifies, qualifies, cultivates and solicits donors on an ongoing basis in a highly professional manner.
- Engages with donors and stewards for their giving.
- Creates and produces data metrics on donor information and other fundraising activities.
- Proposes strategies for solicitation of gifts and other fundraising ideas in accordance with SDZWA values.
- Recommends specific designation and level of gift by communicating with internal management and by adhering to internal policies and procedures.

San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated fundraiser who is inspired to be a part of an organization that is committed to protecting wildlife around the globe. As a front-line fundraiser, the Philanthropy Officer should have experience with moving donor relationships forward to secure gifts while being a collaborative team member. Ideal candidates excel at relationship-building and have the skills to present complex projects that advance our wildlife conservation work and make an impact toward our mission to save species worldwide. This position also requires time management and flexibility as we engage with donors at both San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park and at various evening and weekend events. JOB EXPERIENCE
- Minimum five years of philanthropy experience, with increasing levels of responsibility and achievement in executing a successful fundraising program required.
- Minimum three years of major gifts leadership experience, including personally cultivating and successfully closing major gifts.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
- California Driver License
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of donor database such as Raiser's Edge or other CRM system or ability to learn and operate.
- Strong working knowledge of fundraising and planned giving industry and best practices.
- Strong working knowledge of industry grants.
- Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to handle highly complex interpersonal situations with a high level of tact and diplomacy.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong, cohesive, professional relationships.

- Hourly Rate: $71,200 to $78,760
