DESCRIPTION

The Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI), is an NIH-funded Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) institution that provides the infrastructure to support high-quality and innovative translational research. ACTRI's vision is to translate scientific discoveries into improved health by delivering education, training and infrastructure for clinical research in the San Diego area and beyond. Mike Hogarth, M.D. and Davey Smith M.D. are the principal investigators on ACTRI's CTSA grant. The ACTRI functions under the direction of Gary S. Firestein, M.D., Director, and Senior Associate Vice Chancellor Health Sciences at UC San Diego.

The Center for Community Health (CCH) at ACTRI has over three decades of experience working with diverse communities to tackle complex health disparities at multiple levels. Our mission is to advance health equity through community partnerships by transforming public health practice, research, and education. We do this work by improving health equity, addressing food security and access to healthy foods, advancing health literacy, supporting resident leadership and capacity, empowering youth, building thriving refugee and immigrant communities, reducing health disparities and chronic diseases, advancing healthy policy, systems, and environmental changes, and supporting the translation of scientific discoveries into improved health.

The Senior Project Manager is a highly skilled, hands-on, and collaborative leader responsible for overseeing and supporting a diverse portfolio of programs and initiatives at the Center for Community Health's Food as Medicine Unit. Reporting to the Director, the incumbent will play a crucial role in the strategic development, implementation, and evaluation of CCH's programs, while also contributing to the overall operations, fund development, and strategic goals of CCH. The project manager will play a crucial role in the team, ensuring the efficient and effective execution of research projects and initiatives at the State level. This role encompasses both project management and team coordination. The project manager will oversee project objectives, assist in creating comprehensive project plans, and monitor progress. Additionally, the manager will be involved in developing grant proposals, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with research regulations and protocols. These responsibilities are vital for the overall success and advancement of scientific knowledge.

Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Management:* Foster relationships with community leaders, healthcare providers, grocery store retailers, public health partners, media, and community members to support CCH's goals and objectives.* Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of various programs, ensuring alignment with CCH's mission to advance health equity.* Oversee the enrollment, education, and support of program participants, ensuring they receive the necessary resources and information.* Facilitate the integration of necessary systems and processes to support program operations, including data tracking and reporting.

General Operations:* Assist in the strategic planning and operational execution of CCH's mission and goals, providing leadership and support across various food as medicine initiatives.* Contribute to budgeting, resource allocation, and administrative functions to ensure efficient and effective organizational performance.* Strengthen and maintain partnerships with community-based organizations, public and private partners, and other key stakeholders to support CCH's initiatives and expand its reach.* Mentor and support staff and student interns, promoting professional growth and ensuring the team reflects the diverse communities served by CCH.* Identify and implement opportunities for programmatic and operational improvements.

Fund Development:* Assist in writing grant proposals and preparing reports to secure and maintain funding for CCH's programs and initiatives.* Contribute to the development of comprehensive funding strategies to ensure the financial sustainability of CCH's programs.

Skills and Qualifications:* Strong leadership capabilities with experience in managing multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.* Ability to research, analyze, and develop solutions for a wide range of issues related to program policies, practices, and procedures.* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.* Demonstrated good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to complex and diverse challenges.* Experience in developing and implementing new programs, policies, or procedures that align with organizational goals.

This position is critical for advancing CCH's mission to promote health equity and support the well-being of diverse communities through innovative programs, strategic partnerships, and sustainable operations.

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a comprehensive understanding of analytical practices, policies, and procedures. Incumbent researches, analyzes, and develops solutions to a wide range of issues, demonstrating good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Incumbent primarily handles policies, programs, and proposals that are complex in nature and diverse in scope, and will develop new programs, policies, or procedures for potential implementation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor's degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training.

  • Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.

  • Analytical / problem-solving skills.

  • Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses.

  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.

  • Strong policy analysis techniques.

  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience in managing multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.

  • Ability to research, analyze, and develop solutions for a wide range of issues related to program policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills to be able to empathize, collaborate, and network with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives.

  • Demonstrated good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to complex and diverse challenges.

  • Experience in developing and implementing new programs, policies, or procedures that align with organizational goals.

  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale initiatives involving multiple sectors such as community-based organizations, health care providers, businesses, media, and elected officials.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Masters degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training, preferred.

  • Advanced degree in public health practice or related field. Academic background and experience in community engagement, health equity and health disparities.

  • Advanced project management skills. A background in program evaluation, including proven experience planning, implementing, managing, and evaluating projects. Advanced experience in research working with qualitative and quantitative methods applied to assessing stakeholder needs, program development and evaluation, and reporting to general and professional audiences.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $33.29 - $59.15

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
