Santiago Canyon College Continuing Education Division is now accepting applications for part-time noncredit Older/Active Adult Adjunct instructors to teach in person at our many off-site/community-based locations. Some online assignments may be available, but applicants must meet SCC's Distance Ed requirements (see "Desirable Qualifications" section). Subjects include: Cooking. Part-time, temporary, hourly assignments are on an as-needed basis.

Various schedules and locations are available. Hours will vary depending on class(es) assigned. Most Older Adult classes are offered Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00am and 8:30pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30am-12:30pm.

Special Requirements:
The award of all degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript. If degree award date is not posted on transcript your application will be deemed incomplete and removed from consideration.

Grade cards will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts.

Minimum Qualifications:
Except as provided elsewhere in this article, the minimum qualifications for service as a faculty member teaching a noncredit course is as follows::

A Bachelor's degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught; and either (A) or (B) below:

(A) Thirty hours or two semester units of course work or class work in understanding the needs of the older adult, taken at an accredited institution of higher education or approved by the district. This requirement may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor.

(B) One year of professional experience working with the older adults. NOTE: A verification of employment letter is required to support the 1 year of professional experience working with the older adults.

OR

An associate degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught, and two years of occupational experience (non teaching) related to the subject of the course taught; and sixty (60) hours or four (4) semester units of coursework or class work in understanding the needs of the older adult, taken at an accredited institution of higher education or approved by the district. This last requirement may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor. NOTE: A verification of employment letter is required to support the 2 years of occupational experience (non-teaching) related to the subject.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and widely varying levels of proficiency preferred.
  • A working knowledge of and experience with student learning outcomes and assessment.

NOTE: Instructors are expected to comply with the training requirements to teach online or remotely as determined by Campus standards.
