 Director of Human Trafficking

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Housing and Human Trafficking Programs

CLASSIFICATION: Full Time Non-Exempt

Turning Point, Inc in Mount Clemens, MI is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization qualified employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). Turning Point, Inc empowers domestic and sexual violence survivors through comprehensive services and resources while advocating for community action to end oppression and violence. We offer emergency shelter, housing, trauma advocacy services, forensic nurse examiner program & first advocacy services, 24-hour hotline, personal protection order and legal advocacy services, and community outreach.

 


DESCRIPTION:

 


The Director of Human Trafficking will oversee a team that provides emergency and advocacy interventions to labor and sexual human trafficking victims. The Director is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of a Human Trafficking Program that provides crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy, and follow-up services to adult, adolescent and child victims of labor and sexual human trafficking. The Director of Human Trafficking will also provide advocacy, support, and information to survivors navigating multiple community agencies and systems to help reduce the impact of violence on their lives.

 


Desired candidate should possess a Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field, or a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 3-5 years of domestic violence and/or labor and sex trafficking related work experience may be considered. Must have the ability to work with diverse populations, pass central registry and criminal background checks, and have reliable transportation.

 


PRINCIPLES DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement agency and program mission and empowerment philosophy.
  • Administer and implement agency policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Maintain agency policy on confidentiality, record keeping and professional ethics.
  • Responsible for recruitment, training, hiring, supervising, and development of Human Trafficking Advocates.
  • Debrief with Human Trafficking Advocates following all crisis interventions.
  • Demonstrate self as a team leader working across departments at Turning Point towards the goal of advancing mission and problem solving.
  • Collaborate with other community agencies and systems that provide emergency and support services to human trafficking victims.
  • Provide a safe, comfortable, caring environment that focuses on the needs, and safety of the victims.
  • Oversee and direct transitional housing.
  • Provide crisis intervention for walk-in victims as needed.
  • Connect victims with resources that will support the victim’s well-being from within and outside of Turning Point.
  • Partner with victims in building/enhancing appropriate support and coping skills.
  • Assist in assessing survivor lethality and planning for safety
  • Assess barriers to survivors of labor and sex trafficking and implement strategies to overcome.
  • Prepare/assist/accompany victim through criminal & civil legal systems.
  • Oversee the integrity of program data required for funding source’s program reports and program evaluation.
  • Ability to set direction, delegate tasks, and manage workflow to meet administrative needs.
  • Notify the Senior Director of Housing and Human Trafficking of any emergency situations that may affect Turning Point staff and/or clients.
  • Participate in peer reviews.
  • Participate in applicable staff, committee meetings, and other meetings deemed necessary by Turning Point, Inc.
  • Maintain positive relationships with staff to promote team morale, mutual respect, improvement of Agency services and internal customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field, or a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 3-5 years of domestic violence and/or labor and sex trafficking related work experience may be considered.
  • Must have knowledge about the impact and long-term consequences of labor and sex trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual assault.
  • Must have knowledge of victim-centered, trauma-informed, and advocacy-based counseling interventions with victims of labor and sex trafficking that are rooted in anti-oppression values and the empowerment model.
  • Specific knowledge in crisis intervention, trauma-informed counseling, lethality assessments, victim’s rights, and safety planning are desired.
  • Candidates must also have knowledge of advocacy with victims in various systems including healthcare, criminal justice, family court, child welfare, education, and human services.
  • Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, MS Office
  • Must have the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Must have reliable transportation, insurance, a valid chauffeurs Michigan Driver’s License and a good driving record; must successfully pass a criminal background check.

 


Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Allow for flexibility in schedule, work location and job function.
  • Must be able to drive to multiple sites.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment

  • Criminal history background check
  • FBI fingerprinting
  • Clean DMV record; valid US driver’s license
  • Health Screening and TB test

 


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
 Must have reliable transportation, insurance, a valid Michigan Driver’s License, and a good driving record. Must pass central registry and criminal background check as a condition of employment.
