(NP/PA) Oncology Infusion APP Supervisor - 130222

DESCRIPTION

Established in 1978, Moores Cancer Center is the region's only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. This designation is reserved for centers with the highest achievements in cancer research, clinical care, education and community contributions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and coordinates the department operations, resolves system issues, advises on work methods, functions as a clinical and operational resource and assists with escalated issues.

  • Oversees Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in daily operations, ensuring adherence to ethics and quality standards in the delivery of advanced practice care, including performing exams, ordering diagnostic and screening tests, diagnosing and treating patients, developingplans of care, accurately documenting patient medical history and care, and educating and consulting with patients and families.

  • Develops and implements subordinate staff schedules in accordance with human resources scheduling practices. Analyzes patient data, coverage needs, and acuteness, and adjusts schedules to account for fluctuations as required.

  • Evaluates subordinate staff and participates in decision-making on hiring, salary actions, terminations, performance ratings, and other human resources matters.

  • Collaborates with senior management on operational and performance issues and the development of new plans and programs to improve and integrate NP and PA functions and systems across specialties, departments and throughout the medical center.

  • Interprets and analyzes internal and external changes in policies and procedures related to NP/PA work and advanced-practice care. Keeps staff informed of changes and updates in processes, methods, technology, regulations, and quality standards.

  • Pursues professional development and facilitates access for subordinate staff for training, development, and educational opportunities in all relevant specialties and categories of care. Ensures that all relevant licenses and certifications are current and properly documented.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Depending on the credentials of the selected candidate, this position will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.

  • NP: National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area.

  • PA: Current California Physician Assistant (PA) license and current PA Certification from NCCPA.

  • BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • A minimum of five (5+) or more years of relevant experience as a NP or PA. Experience must include at least three (3) years of oncology experience as an an NP or PA.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise a team and to manage the complex workflow and competing priorities involved with providing quality care.

  • Solid knowledge of the clinical and operational issues for nurse practitioners/physician assistants performing advanced-practice functions within departments and specialty areas, including evaluation, testing, diagnosis, and treatment, and patient-care concepts, policies, outcomes measurement, quality standards, ethics issues, quality improvement, and continuing staff education and professional development.

  • Proven knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document staff issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaborations with all levels of clinical staff and management, consultants, researchers, and outside agencies.

  • Solid written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner, and to prepare and present a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.

  • Knowledge of clinical and administrative software and specialized applications and data management systems used by nurse practitioners in providing advanced-practice nursing care, research, documentation, and employee supervision.

  • Theoretical background in anatomy, physiology, general medicine, pulmonary, emergency and critical care medicine, management of common diseases, concepts of medicine and surgery, therapeutics, including pharmacology, counseling techniques and interpersonal dynamics.

  • Demonstrated ability perform initial history, and physical examination, identify major medical problems and formulate appropriate plans of action.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience supervising Advanced Practice Practitioners or direct experience in a relevant leadership role in a healthcare organization.

  • Ability to lead and successfully resolve workforce concerns and issues.

  • Involvement or demonstrated ability to hire and/or participate in the recruitment process.

  • Infusion center experience.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment.

  • Position may require on-call, overnight, evening and weekend hours.

  • Must be willing to travel to various locations.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $140,400 - $279,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $67.24 - $133.72

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
