MRI Tech - Per Diem - 130328

DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, the incumbent will produce detailed tissue images for medical diagnosis by performing a variety of magnetic resonance imaging procedures. Duties include: explain procedures to patients and assist radiologists in administering medications; instruct and prepare patients for MRI examinations; select appropriate equipment for imaging and determine the most suitable anatomic positions; shield patients according to radiation safety procedures; and maintain records of all procedures. Incumbent will operate MRI equipment to make films of designated portions of the body, prepare and administer chemical mixtures for patient examinations, and assist in performing sterile technique procedures as required. Incumbent will serve as a research associate for magnetic resonance imaging research projects. Incumbent will also assist in clinical trial preparation, recruitment, and monitoring. Incumbent will work closely with equipment manufacturers in evaluation of new equipment and software, and operate varied types of equipment, recognizing normal and pathological conditions. Incumbent will contribute to and participate in work organization and patient schedules, selection, and patient consent forms as a member of a self-directed work team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current licensure by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T.) or ARMRIT.

  • CPR and Venipuncture certifications.

  • Graduation from a Radiological Technology Training Program approved by the American Medical Association or equivalent training. One to two years of experience in MRI preferred.

  • Experience to perform Magnetic Resonance scanning techniques to render diagnostic images. Knowledge of Magnetic Resonance physical principles, concepts and other investigational imaging modalities.

  • Demonstrated ability to obtain maximum diagnostic information, recognizing equipment and scanning limitations.

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and related positioning for accurate imaging. Demonstrated ability to recognize structures that are visualized and anatomic relationships, normal and pathological. Experience to assess technical and diagnostic acceptability of images prior to record.

  • Experience with ancillary equipment, i.e. cameras, videotape recorders for documentation of examinations.

  • Knowledge of Quality Control related to image quality.

  • Demonstrated skill to check calibration status of equipment.

  • Knowledge of sterile technique and infection control guidelines.

  • Ability to communicate clearly, courteously and effectively on the telephone and in person.

  • Knowledge of the principles of magnetic resonance safety. Demonstrated use of a level cutter to perform the most complex and advanced imaging procedures 80% of the time to yield both quantitative and qualitative information.

  • Experience to perform examinations on patients from pediatrics to geriatrics. Demonstrated skill to work with clinically ill patients.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all matters.

  • Ability to work with animal.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of UCSD Quality Service Standards and Institutional Review Board policies.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various locations (Hillcrest campus and La Jolla campus).

  • Must be able to work a variable work schedule.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $142,402 - $142,402 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $68.20 - $68.20

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
