Overview

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) is seeking a Pre-Clinical MRI Physicist / Scientist to support the research activities at the Lurie Family Imaging Center (LFIC).  The LFIC is a state-of-the-art 14,000-square foot preclinical facility, fully equipped with housing and procedure rooms, as well as a suite of in vivo imaging scanners. The Pre-Clinical MRI Physicist / Scientist will integrate with a highly skilled team of Scientists and Research Associates, and report directly to the LFIC Scientific Director. The in vivo studies conducted at the LFIC are focused on cancer research, with an emphasis on in vivo pharmacology, the assessment of novel cancer therapeutics, and multimodality imaging of cancer, and provide key information for the improvement of cancer patient treatment and care.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work collaboratively and in concert with a staff of dedicated scientists, animal/imaging technologists, administrative personnel, and clinical counterparts to develop MRI protocols including pulse sequences, post-processing protocols, and analysis protocols. The Pre-Clinical MRI Physicist / Scientist will oversee the technical and safety training for all personnel operating the 7TMRI unit. The MRI Physicist will oversee the daily operations and MRI imaging procedures along with quality control and safety programs. The Pre-Clinical MRI Physicist will be able to handle animals perform procedures associated with animal experimentation. The MRI Physicist will work with the LFIC Director to make instrument acquisition decisions and manage capital/operational budgets, revenue stream, government/industry grants and contracts as the LFIC continues to grow to its full potential.

The Pre-Clinical MRI Physicist / Scientist will work closely with the LFIC Director to execute the LFIC vision and strategic direction of translational cancer research. The Pre-Clinical MRI Physicist / Scientist will partner with clinical affiliates to facilitate bidirectional translational cancer imaging science. The Pre-Clinical MRI Physicist / Scientist will work closely with other Centers and Departments at Dana-Farber that are engaged in research on small animal modeling in cancer and in experimental therapeutics. The MRI Physicist / Scientist will be expected to develop MRI physics research projects for presentation at national meetings and publication in peer-reviewed journals. The Pre-Clinical MRI Physicist / Scientist will build collaborations with principal investigators, other departments, and industrial partners to design imaging and experimental therapeutics studies, and will be responsible for the execution, analysis and generation of reports for studies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in physics, engineering, medical physics or biomedical imaging strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in MR physics and pulse programming
  • Established track record of research publications, preferably in cancer research using MRI

Skills and Abilities Required

  • 3 years experience in MRI in a pre-clinical or research setting
  • Ability to operate a Bruker MRI scanner and analyze images independently
  • Ability to handle animals and perform procedures associated with animal experimentation
  • Documented programming skills and competency in C, C++, Matlab, IDL, Bruker pulse programming, or other languages
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with members of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to establish independent research and secure external funding
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Full-time, M-F; hours may vary with project needs


Schedule
