Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Oversees faculty affairs administration, strategic initiatives, and staff in the primary areas of executive recruiting and onboarding, faculty recruiting, appointments, promotion and tenure processes, and faculty relations.
  • Directs the provision and continuous improvement of faculty affairs services for over 3,300 full-time faculty and 3,200 volunteer faculty in IUSM academic departments (25), the 8 regional campuses throughout the state, and administrative units in Indianapolis.
  • Manages academic human resources functions such as recruitment, appointment, promotion, tenure, and faculty relations processes.
  • Advises and liaises with academic departments and other units on related matters.
  • Provides administrative leadership, supervision, strategic planning, and continuous process improvement and evaluation.
  • Advises and assists the Executive Associate Dean (EAD) and Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development on strategic priorities.
  • Develops, collaborates on, and implements ongoing strategic plans for faculty affairs including staffing structures, faculty and staff training and development programs, use of budget resources, and assessment of outcomes which advance the school's strategic priorities.
  • Ensures alignment with school and university strategy and priorities.
  • Manages budget, space, and administrative aspects of faculty affairs.
  • Provides supervision, performance management, and goal and priority setting for Executive and faculty recruiting, Faculty relations, and Faculty systems.
  • Supervises associate director of faculty recruiting and advise on policies, procedures, and service delivery model for team. Liaise with executive hires in their onboarding process.
  • Provides guidance to executive search hiring authorities, committees, and staff.
  • Reviews and provides consultation and analysis on academic appointment issues including compensation and hiring with tenure and/or advanced rank.
  • Supervises Assistant Director of Faculty Relations.
  • Advises on the escalation and triaging of faculty relations and learner mistreatment issues.
  • Builds relationships and collaborate on investigations with academic departments, IU Health Human Resources, the IU Indianapolis Office of Institutional Equity, and other units as needed.
  • Reviews disability accommodation requests for IUSM faculty, residents, and fellows to address needs in accordance with the ADA.
  • Works in conjunction with IU General Counsel to advise departments and the EAD on issues that arise, such as background checks needing further review, leaves of absence, appointments and non-reappointments.
  • Supervises Director of Operations and Systems.
  • Advise on overall operations, academic appointee actions and policies, as well as the implementation and use of academic HR software and systems to manage such actions and policies.
  • Develops and manages relationships and communications with various internal and external stakeholders relevant to faculty affairs functions.
  • Responds to escalated and highly complex inquiries and requests.
  • Explains policies, procedures, and context of faculty affairs topics.
  • Works collaboratively with team members to design and implement a variety of development initiatives, programs, and training materials.
  • Manages administration of IUSM's appointment, promotion, and tenure review processes.
  • Provides appointment and advancement consultations and data to faculty, department chairs, and center directors, including co-presenting at recurrent and on demand workshops.
  • Provides guidance for the IUSM Promotion and Tenure Committee and the Lecturers and Clinical Rank Faculty Promotion Committee.
  • Manges outreach and liaison activities with departments, campuses, and other units regarding faculty affairs and professional development.
  • Provides consultation with faculty regarding retirement and develop retirement resources.
  • Develops and implements professionalism resources.
  • Develops and implements recruitment resources.
  • Provides training for staff in departments and other units who manage academic human resources.
  • Advises and assists the Executive Associate Dean and Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development on strategic priorities.
  • Manges engagement and inclusion initiatives.
  • Acts as executive leader for on-boarding and development.
  • Manges data collection, storage, and analysis for improvement projects and participation in scholarly dissemination.
  • Serves on various university, health system, and school committees.

General Responsibilities

  • Develops, motivates, and leads a highly effective HR team that delivers value to the organization with expert recruiting, talent and development, succession planning and other human capital activities.
  • Partners directly with leadership to develop and implement HR strategies. Provides strategic HR oversight to specified client groups, acting as a trusted adviser to leadership.
  • Acts as a primary point of contact for senior leaders, providing expertise and guidance in the areas of organizational performance, culture, and change.
  • Coaches leaders on leadership behaviors and practices focusing on development and performance strategies to promote engagement and a culture of continuous growth and development.
  • Leads key HR processes and initiatives, leveraging and partnering with COE's.
  • Provides strategic HR consulting and problem-solving solutions on the most complex issues to leadership.
  • Partners to create and ensure an environment of diversity and inclusion.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, finance, business, or related field.

 

Preferred

  • Master's degree.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 10 years of experience at the director/executive level, with team leadership in a large complex progressive environment working across boundaries and leading through influence, preferably in academic affairs administration and/or human resources.
  • 5 years of management experience developing and leading teams to achieve goals.

 

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

 

Required

  • SHRM-SCP/SPHR within 2 years from date of hire.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

 

Advertised Salary

$144,500 - $154,500 annually based on candidates experience, skills, and qualifications.
