Job Description

This position is a contract/limited position with the possibility of extension/career conversion.

This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite on Campus and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The Center for Healthy Eating and Activity Research in the Department of Pediatrics conducts various behavioral-therapy studies aiming to decrease binge eating, overeating, and obesity among children, adolescents, and adults. The Center also conducts community programs targeting binge eating, overeating, obesity and other eating disorders and provides clinical services to children, adolescents, and adults referred from UCSD, Rady Children's Hospital, San Diego, and other organizations.

This position provides support to behavioral based research studies, community programs, and/or clinical services aimed at improving health, with a primary focus on changing eating behavior and weight reduction. Diverse populations are targeted including men, women, children, minorities, other high risk populations, and their caregivers. Under supervision, incumbent will support the research projects by conducting clinical interviews and intervention and treatment activities based on novel treatments, cognitive-behavioral therapy, behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy. The incumbent may also provide variety of psychological services such as individual and group counseling and psychotherapy, crisis intervention, clinical consultation. This position requires gathering and maintaining detailed and accurate information on interviews and sessions with assigned study participants/patients according to protocols and procedures for protecting human subjects.

Services may be delivered in person or remotely based on service needs and at the discretion of program leadership.

Uses professional concepts. Applies campus and health science policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues. Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Six (6) years of related experience, education/training, or a Bachelor's degree in related area plus two(2) years of related experience/training.

  • Knowledge and understanding of clinical counseling principles, methods, procedures, and standards.

  • Assessment, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner with a diverse client group.

  • Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated experience implementing cultural sensitivity to workplace situations.

  • Computer literacy and word processing skills with experience using database management and presentation softwares. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom, email, Internet use.

  • Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Spanish language fluency.

  • Demonstrated experience working with research study participants and knowledge of human subjects guidelines, working with community program participants, and/or clinic patients.

  • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications/systems used in behavioral health settings.

  • Ability to perform intake evaluations.

  • Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to patients' rights.

  • Demonstrated experience developing patient educational materials and resources.

  • Demonstrated experience working in the area of obesity, eating behavior, psychology, social work, and/or nutrition.
