Scope Tech - Per Diem - Surgery - 130417

Job Description

DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, the incumbent is responsible for oversight of activities and competencies related to sterile processing, purchasing, inventory and equipment management within the assigned clinic, including oversight and coordination of competency and quality assurance. Duties include setting up and assisting physician/nurse in all procedures (including Sigmoidoscopies and Endoscopies and less advance procedures) that is within the scope of practice, maintaining equipment and ensuring appropriate scope washing/maintenance compliance, coordination of internal and external supply orders, restocking and maintaining inventory, providing training relating to sterile processing procedures and processes, investigating and collaborating with vendors and Facilities Engineering on equipment repair issues, service delivery, and technical problems, assisting with administrative and clinical tasks in the department including EPIC front desk functions and rooming/discharging patients to maintain clinic flow. Other related duties as assigned.

Endoscopy Technician I is responsible for setting up and assisting physicians and nurses with all GI procedures(including Sigmoidoscopies and Endoscopies and other advanced procedures). Duties include but are not limited to the following: procedure room setup, cleaning equipment and room; specimen collection and process; assisting during the pre and post procedure phases of care, patient transport, maintaining and operating equipment, performing high level disinfection, and assuring appropriate scope washing compliance; ordering supplies; restocking and maintaining inventory; assisting with billing functions and maintaining unit statistics; assisting with administrative and admission tasks and performing other duties as assigned. This position will support physician in procedures and does high level disinfection of endoscopes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum one (1) year as a GI Endoscopy Tech or Surgical Tech or similar tech position.

  • Must possess the knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Recent experience in Urology, Surgery, Otolaryngology Scope and Instrument processing.

  • Previous clinic experience and medical terminology.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
  • Proven knowledge of various GI/special procedures, medical insurance billing, charge entry procedures, and medical terminology.
  • High-level disinfection/instrument processing. Care of Rhino-Laryngeal Videoscopes.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • The shift is Monday- Friday 0800-1700, may be variable based on unit needs. When no procedures scheduled, will assist in clinic with rooming pts and in-baskets for Colorectal Surgery as Medical Assistant. No Call.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $72,349 - $72,349 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $34.65 - $34.65

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
