We are seeking a dynamic, creative, and self-motivated candidate to lead and manage a team of technical experts conducting RNE Defeat efforts across government agencies. We impact many facets of the RNE space. 

 

As the Assistant Program Manager (APM) for RNE, you would (1) assist the Program Manager (PM) in the technical and fiscal management of existing projects and programs within the DOD Special Operations (DODSO) program area, and (2) work with the PM and technical team to develop program lines through engaging with current and potential sponsors and collaborators.  You would provide technical and operations leadership for existing efforts and play a key role in defining the future of the program.

 

As an Assistant Program Manager for RNE Defeat you will...

  • Primarily Assist the Program Manager in translating the sponsors’ needs into targeted innovative solutions and plans of execution. Develop and foster a trusted relationship with sponsor representatives (e.g., technical leaders, warfighters, and contracts personnel). Seek new insights and derivative efforts for future program initiatives. Develop, communicate, and lead new initiatives. 
  • Provide clear direction and management of program priorities. Conduct regular technical reviews, identify and mitigate areas of risk, and ensure quality assurance of deliverables. 
  • Cultivate collaboration with key personnel within the APL community (e.g. other program managers, technical leaders, group supervisors, and support staff). Mentor key project leaders for career growth in project and program management. Coordinate with line management to select, train, and mentor project and technical leads. 
  • Act as a trusted agent on behalf of sponsors at meetings and in other venues. Participate in project efforts to maintain technical acuity 

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have...

  • A Bachelor of Science in nuclear engineering, the physical sciences, systems engineering, computer science / engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics or other relevant technical field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to engage effectively with senior personnel
  • 5+ years of relevant technical or engineering experience related to RNE Defeat
  • Prior successful project or program management experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with acquisition and across the systems development lifecycle
  • Integrity, initiative, motivation, and a strong ability to handle and prioritize multiple concurrent tasks
  • Are willing and able to travel to meet with sponsors and end-users
  • An active Top Secret security clearance and the ability to ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

 

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have...

  • An advanced technical degree, preferably in engineering, physical science or management, Master of Science or Engineering (M.S. or M.E.), Doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., D.Sc., D.Eng., etc.)
  • Experience working with government program offices / acquisitions and operational stakeholders
  • Strong technical understanding of the RN mission space
  • Knowledge of, and positive relationships with, the RNE Defeat community
  •  An active TS/SCI level clearance

Base pay will take into account the selected candidate’s knowledge, experience, skill and/or abilities with consideration for internal parity. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance and training and development. Base pay range for this role: $140,000 to $315,000. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
