Montgomery College has an immediate need for a full-time Café Coordinator in the Macklin Business Institute Program.  The typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm, hours will vary based on scheduling needs.This is a non-bargaining, non-exempt, grade 27 position. Non-exempt positions are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. This is full performance administrative and technical work responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Macklin Business Institute (MBI) Cafés and the MBI Offices.

Under supervision and/or direction, this position manages the daily operations and staffing of the MBI Café, which is a profit-generating entity used as a business laboratory to provide business educational opportunities to students, external and internal, to the MBI program. Work consists of administrative and technical activities involving daily café management, business exposure, growth and development, financial matters, training, health and safety protocols. Position will plan, develop and perform administrative and technical tasks involving a variety of processes and methods including the oversight of short-term temporary and student workers, as well as perform assignments in accordance with the policies, procedures, practices, and objectives established by the College and the program manager.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Hire, train, schedule, and oversee short-term temporary, student and volunteer workers, adequately staff the Café, prepare work schedules, analyze, review and improve the performance of MBI students in their café leadership roles.
  • Monitor and maintain customer service level.
  • Oversee the MBI Cafe space to ensure equipment and facilities are in proper working condition.
  • Oversee and conduct daily cleaning of the Café meeting all health and safety requirements, as well as food hygiene standards/requirements for all prepared, cooked and stored food.
  • Prepare and reconcile financial reports for Cafe operations and oversee preparation of monthly financial reports.
  • Train MBI students to prepare financial reports and conduct inventory.
  • Reconcile P-card end of month reports.
  • Oversee and conduct supply ordering, monthly inventory, and opening and closing procedures.
  • Provide administrative support to the MBI Offices and Cafes.
  • Maintain files/databases.
  • Plan and coordinate events for MBI-related programs and initiatives.
  • Prepare fact sheets and marketing materials for prospective students and coordinate marketing efforts.
  • Work requires some physical effort moving between different locations.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in relevant field or an equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience.
  • Two years experience as a barista or similar position involving food and beverage management, customer care and cash handling.
  • One year management experience leading/guiding others.
  • Considerable knowledge of food and beverage management including preparation and serving, cash handling, customer care essentials, food hygiene and preparation, health and safety requirements, and operation and proper cleaning of equipment such as espresso machines and blenders.
  • Proficiency in operating a personal computer including use of operating system and Microsoft Office Suite applications, especially email, word processing, presentations and spreadsheets, and a computerized point of sale (POS) cash register.
  • Some knowledge of supply ordering, invoice processing, and inventory procedures.
  • Skill in verbal and written communications including interpersonal/human relations, organization, team management, food preparation, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to use virtual communications if necessary.
  • Ability to work under own initiative to meet deadlines to create schedules for self and workers that reflects business needs and the needs of employees.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Serve Safe Food Manager certification within one month of date of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license and evidence of a good driving record may be required.

Hiring Range $30.47 - $39.60 per hour. Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity.  Please include a complete resume including all relevant and related work experience.
