Springfield Technical Community College invites applications for an Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs (AVP of Academic Affairs). The AVP of Academic Affairs will report to and work closely with the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) to implement strategies for scaling academic initiatives that are closely aligned with the College's strategic plan, Momentum 2023-2028. The AVP of Academic Affairs will be a thought partner for the VPAA and will collaborate with other members of the Academic Affairs team, including full and part-time faculty. As a senior academic leader, the AVP of Academic Affairs serves on the President's Cabinet, facilitating collaboration across college divisions. The successful candidate will be thoughtful, strategic-minded, collaborative, and willing to help lead change and innovation in pursuit of academic excellence, equity and inclusion. The AVP of Academic Affairs will have significant experience in data/analytics and will help articulate and communicate key institutional success indicators (e.g., retention, degree completion, successful transfer) for and with multiple audiences.

The AVP of Academic Affairs will have a broad portfolio of responsibilities, including: Grants, Instructional Innovation/Center for Online and Digital Learning (CODL), and Early College Initiatives/K-12 Partnerships. The AVP of Academic Affairs will also support Academic Program Review, serve as a key champion for the process, working with faculty to continuously evaluate and improve curricula and pursue enhanced student outcomes. With oversight of assessment, the successful candidate will play a critical role in strengthening the College's assessment infrastructure while supporting a campus culture in which assessment is comprehensive across the college and informs tangible actions aimed at aligning the college with its strategic plan.

Major Responsibilities

  • Key partner and collaborator with the Chief Academic Officer/Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) on college initiatives;
  • Collaborate with school deans to implement academic priorities in alignment with the strategic plan;
  • Oversee academic program review and support faculty in planning and implementing curriculum changes in response to assessments;
  • Clearly ensure a culture of assessment across the college, which includes staff supervision and utilization of key institutional and programmatic outcomes, including use with accreditation;
  • Oversee development and maintenance of high school/Early College/educational partnerships with a focus on developing clear curricular pathways that support acquisition of credentials with high market value and facilitating efficient operation and clear communication with partners and college faculty;
  • Provide operational leadership and vision for the STCC Grants office while supporting the VPAA and other divisions in pursuing financial support that helps the college innovate, develop, implement, and scale programs and practices that align with best practices as well as the college's strategic plan;
  • Provide operational oversight of the Center for Online and Digital Learning while supporting transition to a formal Center for Teaching and Learning;
  • Expand faculty participation in professional development centered on pedagogy and equitable outcomes;
  • Facilitate cross-divisional collaboration (e.g., Student Affairs, Advancement, Workforce Development, Information Technology, Administration/Finance) to achieve strategic and operational goals, including adoption of high-impact practices;
  • Supporting the Vice President of Academic Affairs in development of the next STCC Academic Plan;
  • Provide support to STCC as it relates to accreditation via the New England Commission on Higher Education (NECHE);
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • Doctorate (Ph.D. or EdD.) in an applicable field;
  • A minimum of 7 years of academic leadership experience to include primary responsibility for development and oversight of institution-wide strategic initiatives;
  • Experience with higher education curriculum, assessment, and academic planning.
  • Advanced data and analytics skills, including experience using and communicating student success outcomes to inform strategic change efforts;
  • A strong commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college;
  • Outstanding writing skills;
  • Experience in developing and implementing grant projects;
  • Familiarity with a variety of high-impact higher education practices aimed at improving rates of student retention and degree completion;
  • Evidence of leadership of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging initiatives, especially those focused on closing equity gaps among students of color;
  • Familiarity with Early College/K-12 academic partnerships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Academic Affairs at the level of an Assistant Dean/Dean;
  • College teaching experience (full-time community college context preferred);
  • Experience working in a collective bargaining context.

Salary: $140,000-$145,000 Annually
