Join our Engineering Applications Service Area in defining and developing our future platform enabling Digital Engineering at APL.

 

If you are a passionate Application Integration Engineer with a track record of successfully integrating engineering applications and disparate data sources and are seeking an opportunity to contribute to leading engineering projects, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

 

We are ranked as one of Computerworld 's Top Places to Work in IT 5 years running, and we are seeking an experienced and talented Applications Integration Engineer to help us craft, develop, implement, and operationalize our Digital Engineering platform that will support programs/projects and staff requiring systems engineering and/or systems design and manufacturing. You will play a significant role in enhancing collaboration, orchestrating workflows, and inter-relating disparate repositories and databases by seamlessly integrating various engineering software applications used across our organization.

As an Application Integration Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Application Integration: Design, develop, and maintain integration solutions that connect engineering software applications, ensuring seamless data flow and compatibility between different tools.
  • Data Transformation and Mapping: Perform data transformation and mapping to enable data exchange between engineering applications across various repositories, databases, and data sources.
  • Workflow Orchestration: Define, implement, and automate engineering workflows to optimize efficiency and minimize manual data entry.
  • API Development: Develop and maintain APIs to enable standardized communication and data sharing between engineering applications.
  • No-Code, Low-Code, and Code Generation: Define, implement, and deploy various technologies including Generative AI to capture, integrate and automate various orchestration and business logic.
  • Testing and Validation: Conduct thorough testing and validation of integrated systems to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Identify and resolve integration issues, providing timely support to engineering teams to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
  • Security and Compliance: Ensure integration processes adhere to security standards and align with data protection and privacy regulations.
  • Collaborative Teamwork: Collaborate with multi-functional engineering teams, software developers, and collaborators to gather integration requirements and implement effective solutions.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Have 3+ years of experience as an Application Integration Engineer, preferably with a focus on integrating engineering applications and data.
  • Have a solid understanding of engineering software, data/file formats, and domain-specific standards and requirements.
  • Can show skill in integration technologies, web services, APIs, and software engineering principles.
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot sophisticated integration challenges.
  • Are an excellent written and verbal communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Have strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Willing and able to travel occasionally to attend meetings and events with vendors and peer organizations to include select conferences.
  • Are able to obtain Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have one or more of the following ...

  • Possess a Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Have more than 5 years of experience as an Application Integration Engineer, preferably with a focus on integrating engineering applications and data.
  • Have experience working with Systems Modeling and SysML, PLM, ALM, MCAD, ECAD, MES/MRP, MDAO, and/or SPDM systems.
  • Have experience working with PTC, SiemensEDA (formerly Mentor Graphics Corp), Ansys/AGI, Infor, Oracle, ARAS, and/or Dassault engineering applications and servers including Windchill PLM, Creo, Xpedition/EDM, Visual Engineering (VE), Infor Quality Management (IQM), Fusion, Cameo Enterprise Architecture/Teamwork Cloud, CodeBeamer, or DOORS NG. Familiarity with other engineering applications a plus.
  • Familiarity with or use of Apache projects like Kafka, Iceberg, Spark, Flink, Cassandra, RocketMQ, ActiveMQ, Camel, CXF, Ignite, Superset, Synapse, TinkerPop, and others.
  • Have some familiarity with Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) - based integration platforms, InterCax Syndeia, and/or Idaho National Laboratories DeepLynx.
  • Have experience working with CAD files, ODB++, QIF, STEP, and/or alternative engineering application data formats.
  • Familiarity with or use of common data interchange formats such as XML, JSON or YAML.
  • Have some system administration experience with Linux and/or Windows to include various shell and command line environments and/or related scripting languages (bash, Powershell, perl, python).
  • Have some software development experience including development tools and toolchains (Visual Code, Visual Studio, IntelliJ, Eclipse, Jira, Gitlab, Artifactory), languages (Javascript, Python, Java, Rust), and related technologies and interfaces (REST, Web Assembly, Node.js, OSLC, OData, Swagger/OAS)
  • Familiarity with or use of relational and graph databases such as SQL Server, Oracle DB, Postgres, and/or Neo4j; query languages such as SQL, PL/SQL, GraphQL, and Cypher; and related data analytics tools, reports, and dashboard technologies such as PowerBI, SSRS, and Denodo.
  • Have some experience using s and -based technologies such as Docker, PodMan, Kubernetes, and OpenShift amongst others.
  • Familiarity with, use of, or development of formal ontologies and related concepts and technologies such as the Semantic Web, Resource Description Format (RDF), Web Ontology Language (OWL), Basic Formal Ontology (BFO), Common Core Ontologies (CCO), Protégé, Tom Sawyer, TopBraid Composer, or PoolParty.
  • Understanding of Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Energy (DoE), and/or NASA programs and missions incorporating digital engineering technologies a plus.
