Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Program Coordinator for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) & Equitable Student Success reports to the Executive Director of Equitable Student Success and is responsible for designing and implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion programs aimed at increasing equity, persistence and completion rates among special populations. Through working with the Ed of Equitable Student Success the Program Coordinator of DEI & Equitable Student Success will continue to build out programming and inclusive space in the Cultural Center. This role plays a pivotal role in fostering an inclusive environment where students feel supported, their lived experiences are valued, their identities respected and their belonging and success is encouraged.
 The Cultural Center, the ED of Equitable Student Success, and the Program Coordinator of DEI & Equitable Student Success are part of the Division of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Division whose purpose is to drive the campus-wide vision for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). The Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion works with the president, senior leaders, faculty, staff, instructors, students, and community stakeholders to increase awareness and understanding of DEI and equitable student success as an institutional imperative.
 The Program Coordinator of DEI & Equitable Student Success must have knowledge and expertise in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and be adept at using technology to encourage engagement of students in various modalities. This position is eligible for some flexible workspace arrangements that includes working in-person and remotely as appropriate.

OVERVIEW OF CCA 

The Community College of Aurora serves our diverse community by providing high-quality instruction and support services to prepare students for transfer and employment. CCA enrolls 11,000 students annually, over 62% of whom are students of color, including nearly 32% Hispanic students, 65% of CCA students receive some type of financial aid, including 52% of whom receive Pell grants, and nearly two-thirds are first-generation college students. More than 20 different languages and 60 countries are represented at CCA. 

In addition to traditional degree and certificate programs, CCA offers non-credit professional development courses, customized training, and economic and workforce development resources to employer partners and individual professionals seeking to enhance the capacity and productivity of their workforce or individual knowledge and skills.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 
The Program Coordinator of DEI & Equitable Student Success will assist the ED of Equitable Student Success to continue building the Cultural Center Programs, events, celebrations. Establish an inclusive environment in the Cultural Center where students feel valued and belonging. Assist the ED of Equitable Student Success with the development and implementation of effective systems and processes to enable student-centered, equity driven approach to support and encourage persistence and completion.
 
Program Development: Design, develop, and implement Diversity, Equity & Inclusion programs, events, and initiatives for diverse student populations (e.g., BIPOC, first-generation students, LGBTQ+ community, students with disabilities). Monitor and organize arrangements for all events, retreats, campus meetings, activities, and travel as appropriate. Provide college-wide initiatives, DEI programming and training for students, and employees to promote dialogue about equity and inclusion, build cultural competency skills and understand the impact of bias and micro-aggressions. 

Collaboration: Work closely with faculty, staff, and student organizations to integrate DEI principles into existing programs and initiatives across the institution. Partner with Academic Success Division to support, coordinate, and execute DEI training and development opportunities and DEI co-curricular programming for students that reflect their learning in the classroom. Work with Marketing to develop diversity, equity and inclusion marketing materials and messaging. 

Research and Analysis: in collaboration with the ED of Equitable Student Success, conduct research and analysis to identify equity gaps and barriers to student success within special populations, and use findings to inform programmatic efforts. 

Student Engagement: Facilitate workshops, seminars, and training sessions that promote cultural competency, awareness, and understanding among students, faculty, and staff. Ensures student engagement programs and events are equity driven, appropriate for virtual and in-person modality, and in alignment with the guided pathways model. 
Evaluation and Reporting: Develop metrics and assessment tools to measure the effectiveness of DEI programs, gather/collect data and produce regular reports to stakeholders on program outcomes and impact.
 
Advocacy: Advocate for the needs and concerns of special student populations within institutional policies, procedures, and decision-making processes. Assist with the development and building of network of resources that leads to building and sustaining a dynamic and inclusive Institution.
 
Budget Management and Record Keeping: Manage program budgets effectively, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently to maximize impact, invoices are paid in a timely manner and purchases are made in compliance with state and federal fiscal rules. Assist with the securing of translation services, record keeping of use and paying invoices on time.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Proven experience in program coordination, particularly in designing and implementing DEI-related trainings or programs that deepen skills and knowledge of principles of equity, inclusion, diversity and/or social justice.
  • Understanding of factors that can impact and encourage persistence, retention and completion in higher education for students of diverse backgrounds. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success working in educational setting with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail with strong written and verbal communication, customer service, and organizational skills
PREFERRED  QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working in a Community College environment
  • Possess exceptional organizational skills and demonstrated administrative experience in effectively organizing student programming, procedures, and increasing overall student engagement.
  • Experience with and proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel & Outlook.
  • Experience creating programming that values identity and encourages belonging
  • Experience and understanding working with data, metrics and equity gaps

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Salary Range:  Anticipated starting salary range is $55,453.00 annually. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
