Research Technologist

Job Description

JHU Whiting School of Engineering Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a Research Technologist to participate in a project to develop a microfluidic platform to detect rare DNA biomarkers from non-invasive samples such as blood or urine. The Research Technologist will assist with engineering of the droplet microfluidic devices and instrumentation for analysis, focusing on development of a robust and user-friendly platform for manipulation and analysis of microfluidic droplets. The position is highly interdisciplinary, involving microfabrication, imaging, and programming.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • CAD design of new devices and instrumentation.
  • Experimentation of different fabrication methods and materials for the devices.
  • Performing PCR assays on the droplet platform.


Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Microfabrication.
  • Fluorescence imaging.
  • Image analysis.
  • Programming (ImageJ, Arduino, Matlab).
  • DNA assays (eg. PCR).


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience.

Role/Level/Range: ACRO40/E/02/CC  
Starting Salary Range: $15.70 - $26.25 HRLY (Commensurate with experience) 
Employee group: Casual / On Call 
Schedule: 27 hrs/wk, Monday - Friday 
Exempt Status: Non-Exempt
