JOB SUMMARY:
The Career & Academic Counselor helps to facilitate students’ career, educational, and personal growth; through coordinating career services functions and providing academic support and guidance for (current/prospective) students and faculty in the areas of career counseling, registration, student referrals, academic standing, and other student issues and related activities. The Career & Academic counselor reports to the Director of Student Success and works in collaboration with various staff and faculty to offer support services to students – focusing on students’ success.

SALARY: $54,500 - $60,00, commensurate with education and experience
Required Competencies
- A Bachelor’s degree (B.S., B.A., etc.) in psychology, social work, education, communication, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education and 3+ years of relevant work experience
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build professional relationships
- Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks/projects and adapt to the needs of students/department
- Ability to efficiently use Microsoft Office or similar software
- Experience working with diverse populations
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master’s degree (M.A., M.S., etc.) in counseling and guidance, higher education, psychology, social work, communication, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
- Professional experience in career counseling, academic advising, and/or student services in a college or university setting
- Experience with event planning and facilitating (e.g. Career Fair, etc.)
- Working knowledge of assessments utilized for course placement and career counseling (e.g. ACT, Accuplacer, and Focus 2)
- Experience with technology programs and software packages related to student information systems (e.g. CampusConnection)
- Ability to address conflict utilizing counseling skills and effective communication skills
