Job Description
SENIOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANT, Architecture, will perform complex and diverse financial duties related to management of research, grant, and faculty-controlled discretionary funds for approximately 10 - 15 faculty and research staff members across the department; work as liaison between Principal Investigators(PI) and senior financial staff in development and submission of complex research grants submitted to Research Administration Services(RAS); prepare budgets for internal awards independently; approve purchases according to grant guidelines; monitor expenditures against total available funds; track account end-dates and receipt of funds; track salary expenditures; serve as first point of review on PI’s monthly and quarterly Distribution by Accounts(DACCA) and advise PIs accordingly; notify Fiscal Officer of changes to be made in the Salary Distribution System (ESDS); monitor all payroll transactions and set up MITemps payroll hires; reconcile monthly statements; track all expenditures; other duties as required.

Job Requirements:REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent; minimum of five years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in an academic environment; aptitude for learning new software applications; a high degree of initiative; excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; the ability to manage a variety of detail-oriented tasks concurrently and to analyze situations and propose solutions; to work independently, as part of a team, and remain flexible as situations demand; and to manage confidential information or issues with discretion. PREFERRED: bachelor’s degree, experience with SAP or similar accounting package, grants or research funds management, and robust experience with Excel; and knowledge and experience with MIT financial systems (SAPGui, SAPWeb, Concur, Cognos, COEUS) and with preparing projections or forecasting.
