Position Summary

Reporting to the College President, the Executive Director will serve as a trusted advisor and principal aide to the President by providing advice, support and leadership to the President on a wide range of matters of institutional importance. The Executive Director is responsible for handling complex situations for the President; for providing leadership for various strategic initiatives of the Office of the President; and for representing the College President, as requested. The Executive Director will collaborate with other senior officers to assist the President in maintaining compliance functions. The incumbent works closely with the President in support of issues that require specific follow-up and handles special projects as assigned by the President.

The Executive Director performs the work involved on the basis of a very close working relationship with the President and is expected to develop recommendations that involve subtle, sensitive, and sophisticated relationships and take into account divergent and often contradictory demands and reactions. The Executive Director is responsible for the implementation of the day-to-day operation of the President’s office. The Executive Director will articulate, cultivate and implement a clear customer service focused vision. This position is responsible for directing the Board Relations Coordinator, Executive Assistant and Work Study Students.

Specific responsibilities fall broadly under four categories: (i) Advise and assist the President, (ii) Supervise and provide administrative leadership to the President’s office, (iii) Supervise and coordinate all Board of Trustee interactions, development and meetings (iv) Represent the President as required.

As a part of the college’s mission, vision and values, the Executive Director will lead by example and focus on the Mott Community College 3 Cs: Employee Commitment, Student Commitment, Civility and Compliance. To that end the Executive Director must build and maintain on-campus and off-campus relationships as well as identifying resolutions for systems operations and strategic process gaps that improve employee and student success.

Supervisory Responsibility:
The Executive Director supervises the Board Relations Coordinator, Executive Assistant and Work Study Students.

Minimum Requirements

1. Master’s Degree or equivalent experience.
2. Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience demonstrating successful accomplishments or outcomes in an organization of similar size, structure, and complexity as MCC, as a leader or as an advanced practice professional, working with strategic, operational, and other institutional priorities.
3. Demonstrated track record of success of accomplishments related to an institution’s priorities, goals, and objectives important to a president of an organization, initiatives related to an organization’s Board of Trustees (or comparable group), and daily operational project management and completion of organizational goals.
4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; high level writing skills, ability to professionally address groups with poise and diplomacy.
5. Exceptional research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
6. Must be able to work independently, prioritize work, and manage multiple and competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
7. Must be able to interact with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and constituencies.
8. Must be proficient with utilizing office technology that includes MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
9. Ability to maintain the highest levels of discretion and confidentiality. Excellent judgment skills.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

1. Juris Doctor or doctoral degree in Business, Higher Education, Public Administration or a related field.
2. Senior administration experience in a higher education setting.
3. Understanding of community college governance and operations, including its relationships with external agencies such as the Higher Learning Commission and the Department of Education.
4. Prior experience in working with a college Board of Trustees.
5. Experience working with collective bargaining units.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

1. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
2. The person in this position needs to move about both inside the office and at other locations where events are conducted.
3. Frequently operates a computer, telephone, peripherals, and mobile devices for extended periods of time.
4. Frequently communicates with others over the phone and in person; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
5. Occasionally moves tables, chairs, equipment and carries boxes of supplies weighing up to thirty (30) pounds.

Work Schedule

Exempt from FLSA. Is expected to work appropriate hours and a flexible schedule to complete assignments at established quality and quantity standards within assigned deadlines.
