Job Description
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, CENTER FOR BITS AND ATOMS (CBA), School of Architecture & Planning, manages the lifecycle of CBA’s activities, from planning and preparing proposals and contracts, to tracking and supervising spending, to filing and licensing intellectual property; implements CBA’s financial strategy, operating a budget of several million dollars annually, to include monitoring project spending and ensuring financial compliance; supervises equipment and material purchases; supervises the logistics of ordering and shipping domestically and internationally; manages the lifecycle of intellectual property through invention declaration, filing preparation, case prosecution, maintenance, and licensing; maintains a robust stable of patent attorneys and potential vendors; manages pricing schedule, conflicts of interest, engagement letters, and contracts; keeps sponsors informed of possible licensing opportunities; works with MIT’s sponsored programs office to draft and implement gift agreements; finalizes executable agreements that are satisfactory for all parties while also interfacing with sponsors and advising them of their rights and obligations as laid out in their Membership agreement; collaborates with researchers to develop detailed budgets for all facets of a research grant; assembles and submits documentation according grantor requirements; reviews terms of the agreement that MIT negotiates with grantors; oversees execution of grants for compliance; represents CBA’s interests on campus; evaluates administrative procedures; liaises between CBA/Human Resources; acts as office manager; and communicates departmental and MIT policies.
Job Requirements:
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of financial and administrative experience; experience with administration of sponsored programs; ability to multi-task and solve time-sensitive problems with incomplete information; and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
