The Dermatology Nurse Practitioner is a valued member of the care team whose primary responsibility is the management of patients within the UC San Diego Health market area. The NP works under the supervision of the physician team responsible for providing comprehensive care for patients with general dermatology needs. The NP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership to the organization and profession. May perform other related duties as assigned.

Completion of an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner Program (FNP).
California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification.
Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) board certification.
BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
Minimum two (2) years of work experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner in Dermatology.
Medical Dermatology experience, biopsies, intralesional steroid injection, phototherapy, excisions, and management of other dermatology conditions.
Theoretical background in anatomy, physiology, general medicine, pulmonary, emergency and critical care medicine, management of common diseases, concepts of medicine and surgery, therapeutics, including pharmacology, counseling techniques and interpersonal dynamics.
Skill in telephone interviewing of patients to efficiently retrieve accurate information.
Ability perform initial history, and physical examination, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action.
Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes, as well as policies, procedures and protocols for patient care management.
Proven knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams, and procedures used in clinic. Must understand purpose, required supplies and/or equipment, how to perform procedure accurately, infection control, an accurate documentation of medical chart.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients and other health care personnel, and skill at providing clear written, verbal and telephone communication with a wide variety of people.
Ability to assess the daily status and progress of patients and report this effectively to the physician and other medical care personnel associated with the patient.
Ability to maintain good working relationships and communications with physicians in-charge, laboratory personnel, and members of the health care team.
Knowledge necessary for instructing housestaff, medical students, physicians, nurses and other medical personnel in all aspects of acute and chronic care.
Knowledge of applicable research protocols and the ability to manage all aspects of each protocol.
Knowledge of medical ethics and law practices, pertaining to medical and medical socioeconomics.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years.
Current University of California NPIII employees may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by Health Human Resources and the UCSD Advanced Practice Council.
Position may require on-call, overnight, evening, and weekend hours.
May travel to various locations.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $158,187 - $221,370 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $75.76 - $106.02
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
