Our paid internship program is thoughtfully curated to provide students with experience and exposure to the healthcare industry. Interns will be given the opportunity to get hands-on experience with real work projects, build meaningful relationships and connections within the organization, and experience our mission and enterprise goals through our program curriculum centered on our leadership model (Personal, People, Thought, and Results Leadership). Our Summer 2025 Internship is June 9th or June 16th through August 15th, 2025.

As an intern at Blue Shield of California, you will:
- Participate in impactful projects during a 10-week internship program
- Undertake a 10-week curriculum designed to familiarize interns with BSC, leadership development, exposure to the healthcare industry, and more
- Be invited to participate in BSC employee events and networking opportunities such as Employee Resource Groups, employee volunteer activities, and more
General Requirements:
- Must reside in the state of California for the duration of the internship
- Hybrid requirements - Preferably live within a 50-mile radius of a BSC office and be available for in-office collaboration 2 times per month
- Must currently be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of the internship, with a graduation date of December 2025 or later
Your Role
The Member Marketing team is responsible for creating an integrated omnichannel member engagement strategy that drives health behaviors to improve health outcomes and supports members where they are, when they need us, no matter their health status. The Marketing Intern will report to the Senior Marketing Manager of the Member Health Marketing team. In this role, you will be providing project specific analytical and implementation support and contribute to various member communications.
Your Work
In this role, you will:
- Own and drive specific marketing initiatives including contributing to strategy development and leading tactical implementation
- Establish an understanding of the key strategic partners in health systems organizations, along with their critical success factors to drive to specific business objectives
- Understand marketing principles and demonstrate ability to apply them strategically and tactically in the heavily regulated health insurance market
- Develop and analyze key data for understanding the business landscape along with the individual health systems being targeted
- Provide critical marketing and project management support to the Member Health Marketing team on key bodies of project work. Responsibilities include serving as the point of contact on projects, managing project plans and dashboards, budget tracking and reporting, content development and tactical support, assistance with documenting operating model processes, and serving as a liaison to gather information for the team
- Examples of previous intern projects include:
- Creating internal resources and tools to support marketing strategy and improve overall member experience
- Conducting research on current marketing tools in comparison with market and industry trends
- Evaluating campaign performance and other data to inform campaign strategies
Your Knowledge and Experience
- Currently pursuing undergraduate or, preferably, graduate degree in business, marketing, finance, health care or related field
- Preferred knowledge of healthcare ecosystem; health plan and payer economics
- Consulting and/or managerial experience preferred
- 2-4 years project management experience working with cross-functional teams (paid roles, internships, volunteer experience, etc.) preferred
Pay Range:
The pay range for this role is: $25.00 to $30.00 for California.

Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.
