Job Description:

Academic Counselor: Early College Academic Counselor

MCCC Unit Professional position, Grade 5

Campus Location: One position with primary location: Danvers campus and Virtual

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend hours as required.

SALARY: Anticipated starting salary is $68, 201.00 - $72,000.00. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Early College Academic Counselor will work specifically with students and partners in the Early College programs. The role is committed to facilitating access to higher education and successful accomplishment of student goals. Creates and promotes resources that support and remove barriers to student achievement. Focuses on empowering high school students with an equitable learning experience, anchoring the student as a vital member of the College community. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Early College.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists the Assistant EC Director in managing the day-to-day early college operations with the school district partners and serves as a primary contact for dual enrollment students.
  • Coordinate and lead information sessions, registration sessions, and orientations for students
  • Collect, review, and track applications (CRM). Collaborate with high school liaisons to conduct roster checks, collect SASID and provide final grades
  • Manage student registration, batch registrations (SFAMREG) and add/drops/withdrawals (SFAREGS). Review multiple measures documentation (i.e. transcripts) and enter prerequisite codes in SOATEST. Administrative withdrawal requests must be approved by the Assist Dean of Postsecondary Transition Programs and processed directly by the Enrollment Department.
  • Collaborate with Testing & Assessment office to facilitate Accuplacer for early college students
  • Track student attendance and academic progress (SAP); utilize Blackboard and NSCC's academic alert systems to track academic progress and provide interventions and referrals for students experiencing family, personal, or economic crises which may impact school performance.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with College offices, community-based organizations, and partner districts to support student needs.
  • Collaborate with high school liaisons to develop strategies to address individual student needs and coordinate wraparound services, as needed
  • Serve as primary NSCC Advisor for Early College and dual enrollment students. Connect students to NSCC support services such as Tutoring, Accessibility Services, Advising and Enrollment Services, as needed. Manage referrals via Navigate Care Unit to and from faculty and NSCC support staff.
  • Meet with students who fail to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress to create an Academic Success Contract, outlining interventions, expectations and timelines for improvement
  • Coordinate and conduct school specific orientation for faculty, in collaboration with high school liaisons
  • Provide ongoing support for faculty, in collaboration with high school liaisons
  • Coordinate and facilitate campus visits to NSCC in collaboration with high school liaisons and relevant NSCC divisions/departments, including NSCC Admissions, Student Engagement, academic divisions (for specialized campus visits), etc.
  • Advise students in developing their academic goals; providing information about colleges, MassTransfer A2B pathways, admissions requirements, and financial aid.
  • Collaborate with Admissions, Student Financial Services, Academic Advisors and student support services offices to ensure a smooth transition for students matriculating to NSCC
  • Responsible for maintaining policies and procedures associated with Early College programs.
  • Maintain confidential data and abide by all laws and policies that govern student privacy.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to students, faculty, and staff with a diversity of racial, ethnic, religious, gender, cultural, disability, sexual orientation, learning styles, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor for students as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Early College

Requirements:

  • Masters' degree in a related field with three (3) years of experience and/or training in educational or career counseling, college registration, academic advising, career development, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience providing direct support to diverse student populations is required, preferably in a social service or higher education setting.
  • A solid commitment to diversity and social justice.
  • Experience working with English Language learners is strongly preferred.
  • Experience advising, counseling and/or teaching in an educational or social service environment.
  • Successful experience working with culturally diverse and/or low-income populations.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to students, faculty, and staff of varying racial, ethnic, religious, gender, cultural, disability, sexual orientation and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to students with a diversity of learning styles.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology (Learning Management Systems, Banner, Microsoft Office, Social Media).
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle for transportation.
  • Strongly Encourage Bilingual or Bicultural (Spanish and English).
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.
