Part-Time, Hourly Psychiatric Technician Instructor

Job Description

DESCRIPTION

Please Note:  Napa Valley College accepts applications for part-time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis.  This allows the division to contact qualified applicants immediately, if a need arises without having to wait for a period of time to advertise.  If there is an interest and/or need within the specific department, applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be contacted by respective department supervisors, deans and/or division chairs.  Applications submitted will remain active for up to two years.
 
Napa Valley College is soliciting applications for part-time, hourly Psychiatric Technician instructors. The starting salary range is $74.84-$80.94/classroom hour, with future steps up to $94.69/classroom hour.  Placement is based on verified previous college teaching or counseling experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Teach fundamental, developmental and psychiatric nursing to Psychiatric Technician Trainees, Psychiatric Technician Apprentices and Psychiatric Technician Students and other hospital personnel; supervise and review on-the-job training of Psychiatric Technician Trainees, Psychiatric Technician Apprentices and Psychiatric Technician Students; confer with the Psychiatric Nursing Education Director, receive instructions, and make reports and recommendations on the training of Psychiatric Technician Trainees, Psychiatric Technician Apprentices and Psychiatric Technician Students and other hospital personnel; participate in the evaluation of educational programs and in the development of educational policies; plan and evaluate students' educational experience; confer with unit and program supervisors and advise them on training principles and practices; and keep records and prepares reports.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications from the Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians

Possession of valid license to practice as a Psychiatric Technician issued by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners, OR possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing and/or Possession of a Standard Teaching Credential with specialization in junior college teaching OR a Standard Designated Subjects Teaching Credential, or shall otherwise have training, education, or experience required to teach in the accredited program or any portion thereof in a California junior college or State college.

An instructor in a psychiatric technician program shall have had or be currently attending a course in teaching and shall meet the requirements of subsection (A) or (B) below:

(A) Registered Nurse

  1. Hold a current California active license as a Registered Nurse: and
  2. Hold a baccalaureate degree from an approved school; or a valid teaching credential; or have completed a minimum of one year full-time teaching experience in a state approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; or met community college or state university teaching requirements in California; and,
  3. Have a minimum of two years experience as a registered nurse or licensed psychiatric technician within the last five years.
(B) Licensed Psychiatric Technician
  1. Hold a current active California license as a psychiatric technician; and,
  2. Hold a baccalaureate degree from an approved school; or a valid teaching credential; or have completed a minimum of one year full-time teaching experience in a state approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; or met community college or state university teaching requirements in California; and,
  3. Have a minimum of two years experience as a psychiatric technician within the last five years.
