Overview:
The California Black Health Network (CBHN) is the only Black female-led, statewide organization dedicated to advocating for health equity for all Black (African Americans and Black Immigrants) Californians. CBHN’s mission is to ensure that all Black Californians, regardless of their education, socioeconomic class, zip code, sexual orientation, gender identity, homelessness, or immigration status, have access to high-quality and equitable primary and behavioral healthcare, and avoid unnecessarily succumbing to disease. CBHN conducts outreach, education, and advocacy to achieve health equity for Black Californians through the lens of understanding critical issues that lie at the intersection of racial justice, social justice, and environmental justice.
Position Summary:
CBHN seeks to hire an experienced and passionate individual to manage CBHN projects, grant programs, and initiatives. The Program Manager will manage and develop strategic community and population health programs that measurably improve the health and well-being of the communities CBHN serves. In addition, the Program Manager will design and implement the required assessment, research, analysis, and evaluation. The Program Manager will coordinate the engagement and collaboration with community partners and internal stakeholders to align community needs with business imperatives and identify and deploy resources that support community health improvement. The program manager will evaluate program outcomes required for grant reporting and advancing health equity for Black Californians.
The Program Manager manages the technical and/or administrative program area, including developing medium- and long-term initiatives, program improvement, or strategic plans that are consistent with the CBHN goals and priorities. Responsibilities will vary in accordance with the assigned area of responsibility and may include managing administrative, professional, specialized, and technical program(s); assisting with or independently establishing project deliverables and timelines within the scope established at higher levels; developing and implementing compliance plans; developing policy proposals and actions for consideration by Executive Director and other involved parties; and preparing internal and external reports as required by appropriate parties.
The ideal candidate for this role has initiative and possesses the knowledge of developing, organizing, and planning culturally relevant health equity initiatives and education programs. The Program Manager should have excellent planning, communication, and leadership skills. The Program Manager collaborates with the Executive Director, CBHN staff, and Initiatives to support the ideation and planning for all grant-related programs/projects and health education events to ensure that all programs operate efficiently. The ideal individual must be able to support multiple projects/programs to achieve the goals and objectives and meet any related key deliverables. In addition, the Program Manager is responsible for supporting the tracking/monitoring and evaluating grant deliverables and health education programs, as well as reporting on grant/program performance.

Core Competencies:
- Thorough knowledge of community health problems and existing methods of interventions to address the health education needs of the Black community.
- Complete knowledge and understanding of health equity, health literacy, and health education principles, including program planning and evaluation.
- Comprehensive knowledge of health education methods and materials, including curriculum development.
- Knowledge and understanding of public health philosophy, concepts, and principles.
- Practical knowledge of the functions and services of local community health agencies and community organizations.
- Solid knowledge of budgeting principles and management of budgets.
- Thorough knowledge of program management and evaluation of health programs.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manage complex health educational programs, projects, and events.
- Participates in developing and maintaining program planning processes and internal operations for assigned programs/projects/events.
- Responsible for coordinating workflow, materials, and contracts and meeting specific deadlines and deliverables, which includes planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, processes, procedures, events, and/or standards.
- Represents the organization at meetings, public events, training sessions, committees, and/or other related events to present, receive, and convey information.
- Partner with the leadership to implement program initiatives, monitor program plan performance and prepare status reports.
- Develops, reviews, and drafts grant proposals.
- Prepares, reviews, interprets, and analyzes various information, data, and reports; prepares internal and external reports.
- Actively manages and leads direct report(s) and supports an inclusive and respectful work environment.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education, healthcare administration, business, non-profit management, or a related subject. A (MPH) Master of Public Health is a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in health education, health literacy, and/or program management, preferably within a nonprofit or healthcare setting.
- At least 1 year of experience managing and leading direct report(s).
- Solid experience in preparing and writing grant proposals; health-related grant proposal experience is preferred.
- Experience analyzing complex information, conducting research, and preparing reports.
- Ability to demonstrate self-motivation and be proactive; a self-starter who takes initiative.
- A strategic program manager with a hands-on approach, ready to dive in and do whatever it takes to get the job done.

- Able to work remotely in a fast-paced environment and with a supervisor in a remote office.
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet conflicting deadlines within a dynamic environment.

- Proven ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously with strong organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to give presentations that engage and inspire diverse audiences.
- Strong relationship-building skills with a track record of successfully collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience with grant administration and content expertise in addressing health-related social needs, including, but not limited to, health, wellness, maternal health, and environmental concerns, is highly desirable.
- A team player passionate about health equity and advancing CBHN’s mission, programs, and relevant public policy.
- Computer savvy with proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to work with databases, analytical tools, various online meeting platforms, and create presentations and program reports using PowerPoint and Excel.
Physical Requirements:
- Work is primarily sedentary with some light work.
- Must be able to exert or lift up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
- Travel may be necessary up to 10%.
- Skilled operation of a computer, copier, and telephone is required.
- Remote office environment.
Compensation
Exempt salary position between 80 and 100K per year plus benefits (Medical, Dental,
PTO).
