**POSITION DETAILS**
Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. More than half are first-generation college students. Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest live in Brooklyn and beyond. Approximately two-thirds of our degree students receive financial aid. Since forty-five percent of them identify as Hispanic, the US Department of Education has designated LaGuardia a Hispanic-Serving Institution. Please visit www.laguardia.edu to learn more.
College Now is CUNY’s largest collaborative program with the New York City secondary public school system. The program offers dual enrollment in high school and college as well as college-readiness programs in more than 400 New York City high schools, enrolling over 20,000 students annually. Much like many dual enrollment programs, the goal of College Now is to help students meet high school graduation requirements and prepare for academic and social success in college. In addition, program activities are designed to enhance performance on New York State Regents and CUNY placement examinations so that students are able to enroll in college without needing remediation.
LaGuardia's College Now program has partnerships with thirty-eight high schools in the boroughs of Queens and Manhattan. We offer college level courses and college preparatory courses from the Humanities, English, Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Social Science departments, as well as summer programs which pair college courses with enrichment workshops. The College Now Program reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Academic Program Specialist will report directly to the College Now Manager.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Academic Program Specialist duties will include, but not be limited to the following:
+ Support and develop effective relationships with all partner high schools, with the leaders of all college’s academic departments and administrative offices, and with faculty members to ensure their active involvement in all aspects of the College Now Program;
+ Coordinate all aspects of outreach and recruitment for the college credit courses, summer programs, enrichment activities, and all special College Now initiatives such as FutureReady NYC, STEM RA, Myself Third and Model City Council;
+ Develop and conduct appropriate orientation activities on program policies and procedures for campus and high school staff, students and parents;
+ Develop, implement and revise as necessary all policies and procedures related to student recruitment, eligibility for enrollment, attendance, and satisfactory performance including student support activities (advising mentoring, tutoring);
+ Monitor and collect data on essential indicators of program effectiveness (registrations, attendance, retention and academic achievement)
+ Ensure program compliance with all College Now and campus policies and procedures and maintain all necessary program records concerning student participation, staffing, budgeting and expenditures;
+ Collaborate with other College Now coordinators on the development of appropriate and effective partnerships with the leadership of the NYCPS, the leadership of relevant regional divisions and all relevant high schools;
+ Assist the program director in the development and implementation of an annual plan of educational and professional development activities and in preparations of reports on those activities for College Now Central Office;
