EMS Clinical Coordinator

Position Summary:

The purpose of this position is to provide CSA 17 fire agency's pre-hospital care staff with support, information and equipment necessary to provide high quality patient care. This position implements and manages various programs of training and education including but not limited to health and safety training, orientation, remedial training, and assisting in public education. The coordinator is also charged with the monitoring of the fire agency's pre-hospital quality improvement program, in consultation with the AMR Clinical Management Staff to ensure collaborative internal and external customer satisfaction, and positive community relations amongst all CSA 17 stakeholder organizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Represent CSA fire departments in local and regional EMS committees, which include but are not limited to: North Zone EMS, BSPC, PAC, SDCFCA, CPAC, CalChiefs EMS, CSA Ops Chiefs and others as assigned.
• Liaison with San Diego County EMS medical director, North Zone Medical Directors, CSA 17 fire departments, local hospitals, AMR management, AMR CSA 17 clinical manager, local fire departments, community EMS agencies and other stakeholders regarding EMS matters, including QA trends, educational needs and community medical needs.
• Responsible for implementing a QA program for each CSA 17 fire department, including random audits of EMS calls and scheduled audits of AMA's, advanced airway placement, STEMI call, and all CPR calls. Deliver QA feedback to the field personnel regarding their compliance with the standard of care and SD EMS protocols.
• Investigate and respond to QA issues/questions regarding the quality of patient care or clinical services from field personnel, EMS staff, Base Hospital Nurse Coordinators, community members and other stakeholders.
• Report significant/reportable issues to San Diego County EMS as recommended in San Diego EMS policies and protocols through proper chain of command.
• Act as the designated infection control officer for CSA 17.
• Ensure availability of annual influenza vaccine for all fire department personnel and provide required records to their respective HR representatives.
• Facilitate, assist, and support monitoring and tracking employee health records as required by OSHA or the Fire Departments' Safety and Risk department.
• Refer all serious and/or recurring firefighter clinical issues and non-clinical issues through the proper chain of command (Battalion Chief/Division Chief/Deputy Chief/Fire Chief).
• Assist with the public education throughout the year, through fire department open houses, schools and other community events.
• Assist/recommend medical equipment purchasing. When required, research equipment and support chief officer development of staff reports on major procurements.
• Attend staff meetings, CSA-17 Operations/Advisory Committee meetings and other relevant meetings as assigned.
• Adhere to all AMR company policies and procedures.
• Adherence to and compliance with the information systems security requirements for GMR/AMR and each respective agency interfaced with.
• Annual review of fire department's EMS budget, make recommendations, and reviews as necessary and relevant.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Licensing/Certification:

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse or Paramedic in the state of California
• Bachelor of Science or Arts or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 5 years full time experience as a provider of Advanced life Support in the prehospital or hospital settings (i.e. Mobile Intensive Care or Critical Care Transport Unit, Emergency Department or Intensive Care Unit)
• Proven leadership and management abilities, including strategic planning, personnel supervision and financial management experience
• Five years of recent experience in the field of Emergency Medical Services
• Thorough knowledge of the State of California and County of San Diego EMS regulations, policies, procedures and protocols
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS or PEPP, and PHTLS provider certification
• Possess a valid State Driver's License
• Driving record in compliance with AMR policy regarding insurability
• Well-developed verbal and written communications
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft programs including but not limited to Word, Excel and Power Point

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current certification by the County of San Diego as a Paramedic
• Instructor credentialing in ACLS, BLS, PALS, PEPP and PHTLS and extensive experience as an educator
• Previous leadership and management experience in EMS

Physical Requirements:

Frequently: Kneeling, stooping, bending, leaning, flexibility, multiple physical activities performed at the same time (carrying multiple equipment while pushing gurney)

Constantly: Hearing/listening, clear speech, simple touching, walking (inside

and outside), pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, seeing.

Salary Range: $100k-120k
