Job Description:

Adult Education ESL Instructors plan and deliver standards-based instruction to adults who speak or read English less than well within in-person classrooms. Instructors integrate digital literacy and workplace skills into all classes. Instructors accurately collect, record and submit class attendance and assessments in a timely manner.

Positions are for in-person classes and candidates must be able to attend-in-person training. The classes will be held at Daniel Morgan Intermediate School (DMIS), Millbrook High School, and the Clarke County Administration Building. Classes meet twice a week in the evenings; each class would total 6-8 hours per week.

Compensation:
The hourly pay rate for this position is $33.39. The position is part time and as such cannot exceed 29 hours per week and is not eligible for health or leave benefits. However, the position may offer educational benefits through our professional development and educational assistance policies.

Telework
According to DHRM policy 1.61 Teleworking, effective July 5, 2022, Virginia state employees will return to the workplace. Consistent with pre-pandemic policies, telework may be an option for certain eligible positions. Eligible positions are determined by the type of work and job requirements of the position, as defined by heads of agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Proven academic excellence, evidenced by a bachelor’s degree as required by the VDOE grant.
  • Ability to manage and maintain a professional classroom.
  • Considerable experience developing lesson plans for multi-level, multi-subject classes.
  • Considerable experience delivering standards-based instruction to ESL students.
  • Considerable experience integrating digital literacy and workplace skills into instruction.
  • Considerable experience administering online academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets.
  • Considerable experience accurately reporting student data into an online system in a timely fashion.
  • Considerable experience developing and implementing individual student learning plans.
  • Able to follow the policies of the regional adult education program.
  • Able to work independently and follow policies of host facility.
  • Able to respond to student and staff email within 24 hours.
  • Considerable experience working with non-traditional students.
  • Considerable experience teaching English language learners at various levels.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience teaching adult learners preferred.
