Up to 15 hours per week within the following business hours:

Academic Year: Monday - Thursday, 8am - 5pm
Summer Hours: Monday - Thursday, 7am - 6pm

Campus Statement

South Mountain Community College (SMCC) reflects the diversity of the surrounding community, a rich mix of rural, urban, and suburban neighborhoods. Many of our students arrive from Phoenix, Laveen, Tempe, Guadalupe, and the surrounding area to attend classes at the main campus or our offsite facility in Guadalupe; we also offer evening courses in Laveen at Betty Fairfax High School.

Of the approximately 5,000 students enrolled at SMCC nearly 70 percent were first-generation college students and 48 percent intended to transfer to a university to further their education. And, with more than 80 percent of these students identifying as a minority, SMCC has been federally designated as a Minority Serving and Hispanic Serving Institution.

Our small, personalized classes are offered days, evenings, and online, led by an engaged and accomplished faculty. Career and academic counseling are also available. SMCC is also a Strengths-Based Institution, helping you determine your strengths and then strategize with you to maximize those strengths in your academic and career choices.

 

Job Summary

Become a Cougar Career Assistant at South Mountain Community College and play a crucial role in helping fellow students succeed. Assist with a variety of career-related activities, ensuring that every student has access to the resources and guidance they need to thrive.

  • Assist with the check-in process for appointments and events.
  • Support event logistics, setup and coordination, ensuring smooth execution.
  • Perform administrative tasks (emails, fliers, phone calls, copying etc.)
  • Conduct outreach activities to promote career services and engage with students.

 

Additional Information

In order to qualify for a Federal Work-Study (FWS) job, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file for the current award year and have eligible financial needs based on the college requirements. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid  for more information prior to applying to a Federal Work-Study job.

  • FWS is a need-based, federally funded program.
  • FWS requires the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and confirmation of federal work-study eligibility as determined by the financial aid office.
  • FWS does not directly pay for tuition, and funds are only available to eligible students attending a minimum of six (6) degree applicable hours in a federal student aid eligible program.
  • The FWS award amount is based on your FAFSA results and college funding availability, which will determine the number of hours available to work while supporting the students academic goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current SMCC undergraduate student who has completed 1 semester in good academic standing. 
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits Fall 2024 semester and has completed the 2024-25 FAFSA. Both are required for participation in the work-study program.
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Available to work 15 hours/per week each semester. 

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in administrative tasks.
  • Adaptable and able to work well with a diverse team. 
  • Basic software experience i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, CANVA, Google Suite.
