Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Development & Alumni Relations (DAR) Department at the Smith School of Business is hiring an undergraduate student assistant to provide administrative support for the Fall 2024 semester. Students will be expected to work from the front desk and create a professional and welcoming experience for guests entering the DAR suite. Projects may include donor outreach and correspondence, data entry, prospect research, event support, and other administrative tasks as assigned. Priority consideration is given to undergraduate students in the Smith School, but all UMD students are encouraged to submit applications. The position has the potential to continue through the Spring 2025 semester. This position is open to current University of Maryland College Park undergraduate students only.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • All applicants and hired employees must be currently enrolled UMD students with a valid Directory ID & UID #.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Professionalism & Customer Service – The Development & Alumni Relations team serves multiple groups, including donors, graduate students, undergraduate students, alumni, faculty, and staff. Must be comfortable in a fast-paced professional environment, engaging with multiple constituencies and diverse populations in a positive, proactive, responsive, and cheerful manner. A minimum of 6 months of customer service experience in a previous role is required.
  • Oral & Written Communication – Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to internal and external audiences.
  • Conscientiousness & Dependability – Reliability, timeliness, and the ability to consistently deliver high-quality work within quick turnaround times are necessary.
  • Attention to Detail & Critical Thinking – Attention to detail is essential in our service culture. Creative and critical thinking skills support project development and implementation needs.
  • Discretion & Sound Judgment – Ability to maintain the confidentiality of student and donor data, create and disseminate information, and make sound decisions with limited supervision.
  • Initiative – Ability to take initiative and propose solutions to improve processes to support the Development & Alumni Relations team.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration – Ability to work with others from different backgrounds and levels to contribute to team goals and support the dean’s vision for the Smith School.
  • Administrative – Experience with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.) and a willingness to learn other computer databases the team uses.

Additional Information:

Position Terms and Benefits: Must be available to work a minimum of 10 traditional business hours per week on the College Park campus in Van Munching Hall, with additional evening hours for events and other special projects as necessary. The position will start on September 9, 2024, and may extend through the end of the Spring 2025 semester. Application Deadline: August 30, 2024.
