Advocacy & Communications Program Manager

Job Description

We are seeking an Advocacy & Communications Program Manager who will lead the development and execution of high-impact storytelling, strategic communications, and community engagement initiatives that amplify the voices of key stakeholders in family planning (FP) and reproductive health (RH). This individual will spearhead multi-country advocacy events, foster partnerships, and build the capacity of global FP/RH communities, with a strong focus on gender and equity integration. The role will involve working across WHGI platforms and collaborating with Global South institutions to align advocacy efforts with research and policy goals.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Strategic Communications & Content Development


High-Impact Storytelling

  • Collaborate with network members and key stakeholders to generate compelling stories and content highlighting emerging trends and critical issues in FP/RH


Editorial Strategy Development

  • Develop and implement editorial strategies that reflect WHGI’s mission and amplify the voices of underrepresented communities, ensuring alignment with WHGI’s broader platforms (e.g., ICFP, Demographic Dividend, PMA).


Content Innovation

  • Identify and leverage emerging trends in FP/RH to position WHGI as a leader in relevant hyper-local and global news coverage, utilizing digital and traditional media platforms.


Campaign Leadership

  • Lead and support the development, management, and execution of content and engagement campaigns to elevate FP/RH advocacy. Ensure campaigns are aligned with organizational objectives and tailored to target audiences across different platforms.


Program Development & Implementation


Program Leadership

  • Lead the design, management, and execution of media programs such as virtual briefings, media training, and digital content initiatives. Ensure programs align with WHGI’s strategic goals and advocacy efforts.


Stakeholder Coordination

  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure program success, including overseeing timelines, deliverables, and budgets for advocacy and communications initiatives.


Capacity Building

  • Organize and facilitate training and capacity-building activities in advocacy, communications, and knowledge management aimed at empowering FP/RH communities.


Advocacy & Learning Events


Event Facilitation

  • Lead and co-design blended learning and advocacy events on WHGI’s thematic areas. Use innovative facilitation strategies to host regional and multi-country events that enhance community engagement and advocacy efforts in FP/RH.


Knowledge Exchange & Movement Building

  • Collaborate with global and regional partners to ensure events foster knowledge sharing, capacity development, and advocacy efforts in FP/RH, particularly in underrepresented communities.


Community Engagement

  • Facilitate FP/RH community-driven events, ensuring the inclusion of Global South institutions, ICFP sub-committees, and other key players in policy and advocacy.


Advocacy, Gender, and Equity Integration


Gender & Equity Focus

  • Support/lead the integration of gender and equity frameworks across communications and advocacy efforts, ensuring that content and initiatives reflect an inclusive and equitable approach to FP/RH.


Amplifying Global South Voices

  • Engage with FP/RH decision-makers, including Ministries of Health, to amplify the work of Global South institutions through strategic communications and advocacy initiatives.


Youth & Gender Advocacy

  • Support the development of youth and gender advocacy initiatives, fostering new voices and leadership within the FP/RH space through mentorship and collaboration.


Cross-Platform Collaboration


Cross-Platform Integration

  • Work across WHGI platforms such as ICFP, PMA, TCI, Next Gen, and the Demographic Dividend to align communications and advocacy efforts. Collaborate with research teams to showcase key findings and leverage them for policy impact.


Strategic Synergies

  • Develop communications strategies integrating research insights from WHGI’s platforms, ensuring a cohesive and impactful approach to FP/RH advocacy and communications.


Community & Network Growth


Community Building

  • Support the growth of FP/RH communities by engaging with key partners, including Reproductive Health Centers of Excellence (RHCoEs), ICFP sub-committees, and other stakeholders, to amplify their impact in advocacy and communications.


Global South Engagement

  • Collaborate with Global South institutions and decision-makers to elevate their voices within FP/RH advocacy, ensuring their priorities are represented in global and regional forums.


Youth & Gender Advocacy Networks

  • Engage youth and gender advocacy groups in FP/RH to support their growth, leadership development, and influence within the global reproductive health space. Build capacity for youth leaders within the leadership and advocacy space.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in related field.
  • Four years related experience.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong background in FP/RH, communications, advocacy, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in leading content development, storytelling, and program management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-stakeholder projects, facilitate events, and build partnerships.
  • Expertise in gender and equity integration within advocacy and communications initiatives.
  • Experience working with Global South institutions and decision-makers, particularly in FP/RH.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including digital content creation and media engagement.
  • Ability to travel to multiple regions up to 25% of the time.
  • Ability to manage multiple but connected projects.
  • Ability to mentor and manage BSPH undergrad and graduate students to assist with executing key deliverables.
  • Strong collaborative skills, with experience working across platforms and teams.
  • Innovative approach to communications, content creation, and advocacy.
  • Commitment to gender equity, youth engagement, and amplifying marginalized voices in FP/RH.
  • Fluency in French preferred.
