Communications Associate
Job Description
The Johns Hopkins Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology is seeking a Communications Associate to develop thoughtful and engaging stories that highlight and illustrate the impact of geriatric clinical care, education, research, and community engagement. This role reports to the Division Administrator with direct input from the Division Director for both initiatives to refine coordinated communications strategies, generate and execute cross- platform communications plans, develop features, and manage projects.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and edit original features that promote the work of our faculty, staff, and trainees to highlight the impact of geriatric medicine and promote visibility within the health system and to a broader audience.
- Assist with branding and messaging around geriatrics in communications about our division.
- Update and maintain the division’s website with clear messaging around our mission, to include focus areas on clinical care, education, research, and community engagement.
- Collaborate with academic, government, and community partners to contribute to communications initiatives and website updates.
- Update and maintain the division’s social media accounts, including engagement of trainees, staff, and faculty.
- Develop donor and periodic reports for the division and its clinical, research, education and community engagement programs.
- Develop promotional materials for our clinical services, educational programs, and research initiatives.
- Coordinate written scripts with photographic and video partners in the SOM/DOM and utilize existing raw footage to create a vision for video content.
- Establish calendars and timelines for updates to website content and regular reports.
- Coordinate with media and communications teams across Johns Hopkins University to prepare press releases and do direct outreach to media outlets for key topic areas focused on geriatric medicine and gerontology.
- When needed and assigned, help the central media team at JHU by taking lead on projects.
- Liaise with JHU faculty or non-JHU affiliates as needed to contribute to communication initiatives.
- Adhere to JHU editorial and branding style guidelines.

- Create high quality content in all forms of media utilizing existing work to revitalize current marketing/communications for the division.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Comfortable working in a team environment; mindful of role’s impact on the workflow of other team members.
- Ability to deliver high quality content on deadline.
- Ability to manage multiple projects successfully.
- Sound judgment on prioritizing competing projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related field.
- Four years related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Role/Level/Range: ATP/04/PD
Starting Salary Range: $62,900 - $110,100 Annually ($70,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
