This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at UCSD Campus in La Jolla and remote.

DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health Sciences encompasses UC San Diego Health, the region's only academic health system, UC San Diego School of Medicine, one of the nation's top research-intensive medical schools, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Southern California's first public school of pharmacy, and Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science. UC San Diego Health Sciences' mission is to deliver outstanding patient care through commitment to the community, groundbreaking research and inspired teaching.

The division of Medical Education within the UC San Diego School of Medicine consists of the following units: Undergraduate Medical Education, Admissions & Student Affairs, Diversity and Community Partnerships, Graduate Medical Education, Continuing Medical Education & Faculty Development, Simulation Education, Physician Assistant Education, Anatomical Services, Business Affairs and Educational Technology. The division supports the education, training and co-curricular activities of approximately 560 medical students, 90 physician assistant students, 1000 residents and fellows as well as the faculty, physician and healthcare providers at UCSD's School of Medicine, its' Medical Centers, and affiliates.

The Health Sciences Financial Aid Office is a core mission-critical student service unit within the Office of Student Affairs in the Medical Education Division, and is completely independent of awarding funds from the main campus Financial Aid Office. The Health Sciences Financial Aid Office administers over $40 million in support to medical pharmacy, and physician assistant students. The team provides outreach services, counseling, eligibility and verification determination, budgeting, awarding, reconciliation of payments, administration of department stipends, and federal, state and university reporting.

Applying advanced, specialized expertise, has programmatic responsibility for a financial aid program, and / or regularly resolves individual, complex financial aid situations.

Under the direction of the UCSD Health Sciences Financial Aid Director, maintain a financial aid caseload and supervise designated financial aid counselors. The position formulates procedures for functional area to ensure accurate, efficient, and timely delivery of student aid that is in compliance with regulations and supports departmental objectives. Responsible for completing Title VII reporting as well as reporting for the medical school accreditation body, including information on enrollment, student eligibility, funds awarded, indebtedness, and cost of education. May act on behalf of the Director during periods of absence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Nine years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor's degree in related area plus five years of related experience/training.

  • Advanced knowledge of policies, regulations, and practices for awarding financial aid; specialized knowledge of particular programs.

  • Working knowledge of packaging policies and practices.

  • Advanced knowledge of University policies, processes, and procedures.

  • Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.

  • Ability to interpret complex policies and develop procedures to ensure compliance.

  • Ability to calculate and reconcile financial aid with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Organizational skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.

  • Project management skills. Advanced written and verbal communication skills. Active listening, persuasion, and negotiation skills. Possesses advanced customer service orientation skills.

  • Advanced ability to assess processes and implement improvements. Excellent interpersonal skills. Strong social perceptiveness abilities.

  • Advanced proficiency with standard office software as well as internet and email applications. Thorough knowledge of common University specific computer application programs.

  • Experience using complex databases; ability to define specifications for database programming. Proficiency manipulating and analyzing large volumes of data. Advanced knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.

  • Advanced problem identification, critical thinking, and problem solving skills; judgment and decision-making ability. Supervisory experience.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $74,300 - $134,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $35.58 - $64.42

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
