Applications are invited for appointment as Principal Lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering (Ref.: 526933), to commence on September 1, 2024 or as soon as possible on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Proven track record in programme coordination, curriculum development, and reform in higher education.
  • Significant teaching experience in engineering or related disciplines, with a focus on active and experiential learning.
  • Strong leadership qualities and the ability to manage academic programmes effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the capability to engage diverse groups of students and faculty.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Interest or experience in innovative teaching approaches such as flipped classrooms, project-based learning, or similar methodologies.
  • Experience in an administrative role within an academic setting, such as an Assistant Dean or similar.
  • Active involvement in professional engineering education societies or communities.
  • Experience in conduct and publish high-impact research in engineering education or related fields.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and implement curriculum changes in the main engineering programme to align with contemporary industry and academic standards.
  • Engage in active learning and experiential learning practices, integrating these methodologies into course delivery.
  • Collaborate with faculty members to develop and refine engineering courses, ensuring high-quality educational outcomes.
  • Contributing to the strategic leadership and administrative functions of the Faculty.
  • Mentor junior faculty and students, fostering an environment of academic excellence and innovation.
  • Develop strategies for engineering-related experiential learning activities for students.
  • Manage programs related to engineering student experiential learning and entrepreneurship.
  • Participate in committees and contribute to the overall development of the Faculty.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
