Position Description

 

Advertised Job Summary
The Accounts Receivable Accountant performs and manages complex financial accounting for Sponsored Programs Accounts Receivable and Billing to include managing invoicing, collection, and receipting activities for the Controller’s Office. Manages the monthly Billing process and ensure timeliness and accuracy of invoicing. Assist with the Sponsored Programs Accounts Receivable month end close process and AR aging to include weekly and monthly aged balances and collection status reports.

Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree and 3 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, theories and terminology of grant reporting and federal cash management.
  • Knowledge or demonstrated ability to understand and research federal cost principles for grant management.
  • Knowledge of federal and state government fiscal accounting processes.
  • Knowledge of financial statement analysis.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial data and reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.

Job Duty
Invoicing: Assist with the management of invoicing for Sponsored Awards by running proforma invoices, cost reimbursable invoices, off-cycle invoices and fixed price invoices monthly for submission by the post award accountant. Create trackers for invoice submissions and ensure that invoices are sent prior to the end of each month. Respond to sponsor’s questions about invoices. Work with the PAA to ensure that any invoice updates are corrected and returned to the sponsor in a timely manner.

Aging Receivables: Analyze outstanding Accounts Receivable (A/R) to include assessing aged projects, working to collect them timely, and analyze and reconcile A/R by project. Ensure all receipts are recorded timely against the A/R balance by project. Assist in the review and preparation of the A/R aging reports. At 60 days, ensure aged receivables are followed up on and notes are entered into PeopleSoft
