The faculty member will teach lectures and labs in human anatomy & physiology, environmental science, and/or general biology. Courses are offered during the day, evening, and/or online. Other responsibilities include assessment, course development, service activities, campus engagement, and professional development. Mentoring undergraduate students in research projects is encouraged.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in Biology or related field
- General classroom instruction and experience working or teaching in a lab
- Experience working with a diverse student population
- Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate in Biology or related field
- College teaching experience
- Experience in a microbiology lab
- Experience teaching online, hybrid, and hyflex courses
Essential Functions
- Teach a combination of lectures and labs that are equivalent to a minimum of 15 lecture hours each Fall and Spring semester
- Fulfill faculty roles and responsibilities as outlined in Midland College Policy and Administrative Regulations as published in the Employee and Faculty Handbook
- Assist the Program Chair in scheduling and staffing all biology lectures and lab classes
- Assist Program Chair and Division Dean in preparing a recommended budget for the department, recommending purchases of equipment and supplies, maintaining and controlling the use of equipment and supplies
- Recommend textbooks and instructional materials to be used in the instructional program
- Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum; lecture and lab curriculum are to supplement each other
- Provide access to students through adherence to posted office hours and effective use of Canvas and electronic communication
- Serve on departmental, division, and college-wide committees as requested
- Maintain a well-managed learning environment regardless of instructional location or modality
- Communicate learning objectives to students
- Identify students who are at risk for course failure and employ early interventions to promote student success
- Assist with educational counseling and program advising of students
- Assist with writing and development of proposals seeking funds or property for the Biology Department as requested
- Coordinate with appropriate Midland College personnel to recruit new biology students as requested and work to increase enrollment in the Biology Department
- Stay current with trends and innovations in the field
- Maintain professional status through classroom participation, organizational memberships, advanced study, publication, and/or community-related service
- Help to orient new full-time and part-time faculty
- Serve as a resource to the College, professional, and educational communities
- Maintain academic records as required by the college, accreditation agencies, and law
- Successfully taught academic courses in the Biology Department, as evidenced by student evaluations and grade distributions
- Assist with the development of goals and objectives for the department
- Other duties as assigned

- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
- The person in this position needs to move to other locations on campus occasionally
