Position Summary

The Student Recruitment & Engagement Coordinator is responsible for working closely with the Director of Recruitment and Retention in implementing effective recruiting strategies, prospective student communications, and outreach programming. Serves as the Associated Student Government (ASG) advisor. Additionally, this position will work closely with the activities of the BMCC Student Ambassador Team at the College assuring quality campus tours, event hosting, and effective dissemination of student marketing and resource materials. This role will also assist in the overall development of student organizations and the implementation of student activities while working collaboratively with student leaders, club advisors, and administration. This role will serve as a lead for all student engagement activities across the college. Performs tasks related to the planning, organizing, and supervising the delivery of activities for students while working closely with the Recruitment & Retention Team. Performs all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work with the Recruitment & Retention team to provide outreach activities and events throughout the service district.
  • Liaise with high schools, community partners, and industry partners on outreach and recruitment efforts.
  • Coordinate and oversee on-and-off campus recruiting activities and events which include but are not limited to connecting with service area high school programs and key high school staff (ASPIRE, Gear Up, High School (HS) Counselors, HS teachers identified within the HS as post-secondary education support) with emphasis on reaching historically under-represented populations.
  • Actively participate in the development and implementation of enrollment strategies as defined in the strategic enrollment management and recruitment plan.
  • Effectively conduct information sessions with prospective students, asking appropriate questions to identify the students goals and plans, and assisting in building an educational road map to assist each student in preparing for their education at the College.
  • Provide general information about the College, programs, and courses offered and services available including financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
  • Coordinate and participate in recruitment events for all communities. Recruitment events may include college-wide activities, externally hosted events, and may require out-of-district travel.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of program-specific marketing and recruitment strategies.
  • Works with the Director to interpret policies and to develop appropriate procedures for implementation.
  • Oversee and manage the student interest database to ensure the proper tracking of recruits, all BMCC recruiting activities, and strategic prospect communications. Ensure accurate and meaningful reporting.
  • Work closely with the Early College Credit Coordinator on high school recruitment related activities and serving as a navigator when needed.
  • Manage all recruitment activities in a way that represents BMCC in a positive and responsible manner, promoting diversity within recruiting efforts.
  • Coordinate recruiting activities for all BMCC campuses. Under the direction of the Director, work closely with campus centers and departments to determine appropriate strategies for each community, as it relates to the college recruitment and enrollment management plans.
  • Serve as the ASG Advisor and ensures that ASG complies with college policies and procedures, ASG Constitution and Bylaws.
  • Coordinate and lead the selection process for new BMCC ASG members each year. Monitor and evaluate individual ASG qualifications and effectiveness regularly.
  • Oversees the ASG budget and provides monthly expense reports to the ASG leadership team.
  • Coordinates and oversees the ASG/student life space on campus.
  • Develop and facilitate annual student interest surveys to inform program planning related to student engagement.
  • Plans, organizes, and oversees student travel programs; chaperones off-campus trips and events, as needed.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies as needed for off-campus activities.
  • Create informational and event materials as well as website content, for student engagement events and activities.
  • Travels to the following but not limited to, area high schools, college/career fairs.

General Duties

  • Maintains sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, ability, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Participate in continuous development of cultural competency to support effective relationships and the ability to design systems that are equitable.
  • Submit reports as requested by the Director.
  • Participate in cross training activities as needed. May be required to attend professional development activities out-of-district.
  • As directed, gather, track and maintain appropriate documentation for student enrollment, including but not limited to clearances, medical records, and previous training/education.
  • Participates in the following but not limited to: Welcome to the Pack, Commencement, registration events, college/career events, etc.
  • Applies and adheres to the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Other Aspects to this Position

  • Schedule will include travel to and communication with BMCC Centers and partner locations for student support services, program promotion, and recruitment purposes, or to attend meetings as needed; valid drivers license required.

  • Handle confidential student information with tact, discretion, and in compliance with FERPA regulations.
  • Leverage technology for optimum efficiency and end-user satisfaction.
  • Meet deadlines and with attention to detail.
  • Assess student need and discern the best course of action.
  • Work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend assignments.
  • Travel to out-of-area as needed.
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in education, communication, or related field.
  • At least one (1) year of related experience.
  • Experience working in a student services capacity within the post-secondary education environment, preferably admissions, advising, career coaching or outreach.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.

 

This is a full-time position with excellent benefits including: Medical, dental, vision, life, accidental death & dismemberment, and long-term disability insurance; Paid holidays; Sick leave; Vacation; and Tuition waiver for employee and qualified dependents.

Pay: $57,067.00 - $60,000.00 DOE
