POSITION TITLE: IT Instructor

DEPARTMENT: Academics

REPORTS TO: ISci Department Chair

CLASSIFICATION: Faculty Exempt

REVISED: May 14, 2024

SUMMARY:

Instruction in up-to-date Microsoft Office software, computer programming, IT certifications, and other multi-media applications, which promotes and enhances the college commitment to excellence in instruction and which supports the current needs of the students and faculty; advising students; maintaining office hours; assisting with registration; serving on College committees; developing curriculum; maintaining professional competence; and participating in professional development activities. The successful candidate will have strong programming skills as well as strong the ability to teach effectively. Research design experience is a plus.

Promote a culturally relevant and strong technology curriculum in the Indigenous Science Department through course development, instruction, and collaboration with other faculty.

EDUCATION:

A Master’s degree in computer science earned or in-progress. Industry experience, IT certifications, and other equivalent experience may also be considered.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • A strong commitment to the mission and vision of the College, including support for LLTC’s emphasis on Anishinaabe values, culturally infused curricula, lifelong learning, and community service.
  • Experience working with Indigenous students and/or in a Native community.
  • An understanding and appreciation for the role of tribal colleges in meeting the needs of the community, Leech Lake band, and state.
  • A commitment to faculty and staff excellence.
  • A strong commitment to meeting student needs and providing a quality educational experience for all students.
  • An understanding of, and commitment to, fiscal responsibility in support of academic and administrative effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving students with diverse backgrounds, interests, goals, and abilities.
  • Knowledge of current issues/trends in Academics, including recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Teaching experience, preferably at an adult and post-secondary level;
  • Teaching experience with diverse student populations;
  • Teaching with online learning tools.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to implement contemporary pedagogical philosophies, methods, and techniques, including multi-media, to develop and deliver instruction in classroom and lab settings;
  • Able to develop instructional activities, course syllabi, course outlines, and other necessary teaching materials;
  • Knowledge of at least one programming language, plus HTML/CSS
  • Knowledge of computing theory, security, and history
  • IT Certification is a plus
  • Ability to effectively use appropriate technology and equipment;
  • Knowledge of online learning;
  • Ability to work collegially with all individuals in the tribal college setting.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member of LLTC.
  • Ability to provide outstanding quality customer service and support to the LLTC and all stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Instructors are expected to teach the contracted number of credits per semester.

2) Teach courses in computer science, computer programming, web development, and computer applications, specifically Microsoft Office.

3) Faculty are required to attend:

a. Faculty orientation at the beginning of the fall semester.

b. Committee meetings assigned throughout the school year.

c. Tribal College graduation ceremony at the end of the school year, and

d. All classes each semester; arrange for a substitute instructor in the event of your absence (all absences must be approved by the Department Chair).

4) Attend other meetings as requested by your Department Chair Dean of Academics.

5) Faculty are required to submit:

a. Course syllabi and office hours to the Dean of Academics by required dates.

b. Final semester grades by the required semester-end dates.

c. Student attendance reports in the required format at the required time.

d. Any other information required by the class standards.

6) Faculty must maintain office hours for students for tutorial assistance, academic advising, or assisting with student organizations such as Student Senate. These hours must be in addition to classroom hours. Faculty are required to post office hours and class schedules prior to the beginning of each semester.

7) Faculty are required to be available for students and special duties as may be assigned during final exam weeks or registration periods.

8) Faculty must meet with each student enrolled in your classes through a formal appointment process once each semester.

9) Faculty must abide by the Faculty Handbook.

10) Faculty must participate in program or grant reporting, assessment and/or evaluation as required.

11) Participate in department and college curriculum development.

12) Deliver instruction using a variety of methods of course instruction, including traditional, online, and hybrid courses.

13) Conduct classroom research and other assessment/evaluation activities.

14) Mentor and advise students.

15) Contribute in committee assignments and college wide retention and quality initiatives, such as peer review of course and an early alert system for students struggling academically.

16) Engage in department accreditation and review.

17) Resolve or assist in the resolution of problems and/or complaints and initiates corrective action as appropriate.

18) Participate in professional organizations as appropriate to assignment.

19) Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

PREFERENCE:

Native or near-native fluency in English required. Possible areas of specialization include Education or American Indian Studies. The successful candidate will have teaching experience, be able to teach courses at all appropriate levels, show the potential for active scholarship, demonstrate a desire to working with diverse communities, and be dedicated to student success and motivated by a strong commitment to the mission of Leech Lake Tribal College.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Minnesota driver's license and current auto insurance.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $52,000.00 - $56,000.00 per year
